--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Philippines (a predominantly Catholic country in Asia) there is a small town called Cutud (80 Kms north of Manila), where in every Good Friday, penitents coming from all over the country gather to be crucified, imitating the Martyrdom of Jesus Christ in a ritual known as Panata. I though it would be nice of me to show this to some people that might have no idea how is the Holy Week commemorated in some other parts of the world.

The images below depict the real suffering of this penitents.

That's just... Sick. I've seen some pretty gross things in my life, but that tops the list.

By the way, don't flood the forum. I think you can delete your own topics when you double post...

Silly Mountain Walks - I like you, you know that. But I'm getting really sick of cleaning up your mess all the time. PLEASE hit the submit button ONCE! Make sure it went through or didn't go through before you try again.. I'm getting frustrated always having to clean up the multiple posts and threads you make because you can't wait to see if it went through and just keep submitting.. please stop it. It's me who has to clean it up and when the server is going slow it takes a huge chunk of my time doing it.

Thank You.

"I'm more pious than you are!"
"Nuh-uh! I'm more pious!"
"No you're not!!"
"Am, too!!!"
etc. :P

I've seen this before, and while I think these people are a bit, well, fanatical in their faith, they do stand as a counter example to the Jesus-loving kids I taught at the University of Arkansas who called this week "res week" (short for resurrection, I think). They put several events together, one of which I referred to as "Line Dancing for Christ," but undoubtedly the worst was that they took turn lugging this cross made of 2 by 2's around campus. Had they actually been carrying it, or even dragging it, it wouldn't have been so bad. BUT IT HAD WHEELS ON IT! That's right--wheels. Where's the sacrifice in that? Ugh.

Crazy christians...
Today I saw people wearing shirts with the logo: "the penance jog" jogging in a park (Apparantly it's an event)

I've got no problem with people making open expressions of their faith. I just hate it when people try to make it look like they're making some sort of public sacrifice when it's all really a show.

I heard about it. Rather gruesome. Luckily, the Catholic Church doesn't endorse these crucifictions. Even the Pope didn't carry a cross through the Colleseum this Friday.

I had a message from Cogitation about this, I don't understand, when i have multiple posts I correct them. It is not about clicking the submit button x times. i know that if my modem says "can't find the server", I submit once, then he can say again "can't find the server" and I only click once again. After a while once clicking (when the modem says can not find server, you are of line) it is strange to see that the computer made multiple posts. And then I start to delete, yesterday, I did not see multiple posts and shut of the computer. It had only one message....

I will pay even more attention to it. This was my last post yesterday and appearently, after all the probs that I had for getting trugh it, it was a multipple post (altough, like i said don't submit more then once). Altough I checked it.

Guess I have to find a other disscussion forum because you people allways think that it lies in my hands. Once again, when I see it, I correct it (or delete most of them), but I find it hard to believe (because I checked it allways after the multiple posts on the forum as new topic that I could not delete and deleted my posts) that it is me that make sthose multiple posts.

Sorry again  but I rally can not help anything about it.

It is nothing less than sick and disturbing.

Why do we need to reenact this horrible event? Do we re-enact JFK's assassination every year? lol

Yeah I'm not surprised, many asian countries do that.
My mother's from the Philippines and we have this map of the different traditions and down the bottom is a man carrying his cross, about to be crucified, and being beaten by these 'soldiers'

yeah it's pretty sick.
