Well that is a perfectly believable story. Perhaps if we heard of all the intrigue, we would be totally shocked.

Well, the majority of the CIA stuff was a lie. And the Ba'athists didn't try to come to power twice between 1963 and 1969, once. Indeed, the US did give Iraq WMDs and they knew what is was to be used for. Everything after the Iran-Iraq war is true except for the fact that "you always had him".
