Americans - please read 'Bushwhacked' - Molly Ivins & Lou Dubose (isbn 0-74900-618-8) And if you vote for the s.o.b then you are either mad or a political contributor.

I liked "Lies And The Lying Liars Who Tell Them."

And yes, you'd have to be insane to vote for Bush

What about the purpose of government being to maintain order and protect the nation from internal and external threats? The government has many purposes, not merely one singular reason for existence.

Internal enemies - like Enron?!

ESPECIALLY Enron.

Then given Dubya's and Poppy Bush's special relationship with Enron peoples means, in your opinion, that they are sh1t out of luck?

I trust you will not be voting for Shrub this year.

I would say that the purpose of the government is to defend the rights that we have been given by the Constitution, protect the borders from invasion, and possibly to defend the oppressed peoples around the world.

Could you be more specific about what you mean by "to support and protect those whom cannot protect themselves"?

Needs Clarification...

When you say "supoprt" do you mean with the tax payer's money?

What about "protect"? In America, people are free to buy handguns, mace, and other legitimate means of self defense. The police are supposed to "protect" us, but they cannot always be everywhere.

Like I said, needs clarification.

If it was our obligation to defend the oppressed peoples around the world, we would be at War with more than half the United Nations.

protect as in health care, protection from exploitation, protection from contaminated foods entering the food chain, protection from polutants dumped by companies. I wouls say that is a better recipient if tax money than massive tax breaks worth billions of dollars to campaign contributors.

Oh yes, we'd all be mad if we vote for Bush but if vote for Kerry everything is gonna be fine and dandy, isn't it? Let me repeat, you are all delusional to think that Kerry will be any better. Nor do I think you should vote for Bush. Vote for either and you still receive the same crappy services you receive now. Vote for either and you will still get the same paranoid crap about terrorism. Vote for either and the national debt will still increase at a suicidal rate. Vote for anyone who's gonna bring back the Gold Standard. Your country is gonna get stuffed for good if you don't and when it does there won't be any turning back.

The FDA is supposed to "protect" us as in health care, though it has not proven to have offered any real protection for Americans and has proved to have prevented many people from receiving life-saving drugs while raising prices and has been an overall burden on the American health care system. Many of it's food related funtions have been transferred over the the Dept. of Agriculture. The FDA has failed. Many push for it's abolishment.

Entities owned by the federal, state, and local governments cause more polution than oil companies, chemical companies, and nuclear power plants. Government is not always the answer to all of our problems and it sometimes just creates more.

Look, we can all agree that Kerry would be infinitely better than Bush. Period. Even if, yes, Kucinich or Dean or (not really but just as an example) Nader would be ideal, the whole point in 2004 is to make damn sure that Bush doesn't get re-elected. Hence, a vote for Nader is just a vote away from Kerry and thus a vote for Bush. Protest votes are all well and good when there's little at stake or it isn't going to be a close election, but we can't afford that this year. So please, if you don't want more Bush, vote Kerry.
