Ever give blood?...READ THIS...

> Hey this is Dfds friend again...I know...you're all gettin sick and tired of me...but I got something to say...

If you ever gave blood in your life...I don't care how long ago or how short ago...then thank you...

Don't know if you know...but I'm going to share. I had to get a blood transfusion...which is probably the only thing that really saved my life...so...I thank anyone who ever gave blood. If people didn't give blood...I probably wouldn't be here today...so thanks again.

It might not seen important to those that don't...but I would've died if I didn't get that transfusion. Its not like they could've used my blood...it was spilled all over the place...so I needed someone elses...

If you don't give blood...consider it. I know next year when I'm able to...right now I can't cuase I just got a transfusion...but when I can I am...It helps people out...

If you do...good...keep it up...

Thanks again...you saved my life...

They had me fill out a questionnaire before giving blood. When they saw my personal history, they immediately threw me out on the street.

Their loss.

BTW: In related news, I heard something about the FDA approving artificial blood a few months ago.

Hey, it's in us to give. *Literally* :)

I am happy to hear you're doing ok. I don't only think every one should give blood.. but every one of age should also sign a donor card while healthy.. because you never know what life might bring you.. and your family/friends may not know what your wishes are.. so don't wait.. sign a donor card today and don't forget to give blood at least a couple of times a year!

It would be a thousand times better to buy stocks in biotech, and outcry any piece of legislature restricting research, than sign an organ donor card.

Give blood, donate your whole body to science, and support the researchers in your nearest biotechnology company instead.

They may have my body after my death to do as they please with. I have signed it away quite a few years ago.. any way that science may be helped with my small donation is kewl with me. It's not like I'm going to be needing it after..lol :P

Never been thankful for taking allergy shots as a kid, but it makes me used to needles, so I've never had an issue with giving blood. Small thing to be thankful for, I suppose, but hey.

I live in England, and you're allowed to give blood every four months from the age of 17. I'm due to give blood on the 16th April, and it will be my sixth time (I'm nearly 19).

I'm also a bone marrow donor, and have even registered my body organs to be used to treat others in the event of my death.

I've done my part to help others. (I'm A+ by the way :D)

BTW: In related news, I heard something about the FDA approving artificial blood a few months ago.

There are several types in the works at different companies, but I'm pretty sure they're only being looked at for use in planned surgeries, where the patient's own blood cells can also be saved. The problem with the artificial blood is that it is simply a liquid capable of transporting oxygen - there are no cells.

So, yeah, for trauma and everything, everyone still needs to give blood! I've been giving since I was 17 and I won't be able to for a while since I have to get my hep series, so everyone else should make up for me! hehe

I'd give blood but Im not sure They'd take mine. I've been meaning to find out.

I have a theory about Blood donorship. Ever notice how they "Elite" Never seem to take Prescription meds. How they are free of most impediments and some such. And you wouldnt expect them to give blood.

I reckon that most people that would be willing to give blood are either too busy or are on meds and thats why stocks are always low.
Thats definately my story.

I donate when I can, I'm A+, but we can give a big thanks to my mother. She's O- and and she volonteered to give her cell-phone number to the near-by hospital. They called her at night sometimes to donate blood when there is urgency and shortage. She saved quite several lives. She can't anymore because they've found she has a cancer (it looks like it affects the blood somehow but I don't know shit about biology).

Why thank you.

I donate when ever I can. I am working on my 2nd or 3rd gallon know.....

Glad to see you are ok!

People should also consider marrow donations as well. I actually got called once but at the last minute they found a family member that was a better match.

I turned 17 over the summer so this fall was the first time i was eligible to give. It wasnt bad, but I forgot what blood type they said I have.

My dad gave a couple times, but this last time he went and the bloodtest said he had Hepatitis. They then did a more thorough test and said it was clean, but now he cant donate anymore.

They increased my tolerance for needles to the point where they don't even bug me anymore. I can give blood without hesitation, so I do, when I have the opportunity.
