I have a problem with my computer.

Here is a list of problems with my computer.

1. When I go to open a new window in Internet Explorer the new window takes a long time to load up.

2. When I go Clear in the Advanced tab of Taskbar Properties it takes a long time to clear.

3. Some of the games I play are jerky when I play them.

I've had this problem with my computer before. It was fixed last time by my brother updating windows. Now it has returned.

If anyone has a solution to my problem, or know of a website where I could get a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm not a computer geek or anything, but how old is your computer.

Sounds like it might be network....

Do the usual checks

Virus
Spyware/malware

How old is the computer? Some of the new games I got as gifts require 1-3 Ghz to run them.

If it's a recent one, try adding some extra memory to it. Or defragmintise the hardrive. Or if you use Kazaa or Morpheus get some spyware killing software.

mmm..when you defrag check the settings... try checking or unchecking the 'make progs start faster' option if it's there.

Defrag, virus scan, spyware removal programs, memory upgrade, removing files you don't need or use. What OS do you use anyways?

Games?

They can take up a lot of memory.

My old computer worked better once I deleted Myst.

ehheh.... heheheh... hahahha.. hahahahhaha.... (bursts out laughing)

what everybody else said: virus/spyware scans, harddrive defragmentation, and if need be, a little extra RAM

your computer's statistics would be nice, though

I had an upgrade on my computer three months ago. My computer now has the following:

DFI LAN Party mother board
AMD 2400 MHZ processor
512 MB RAM
128 MB Raedon Video Card (not shared)
40 GB Hard Drive
My operating system is Windows ME.

So far I have done a virus scan, quick disk scan and defragment but the problem still seems to be there. Someone sent me a message to download some programs to get rid of spyware. I'll probably try those.

Ad-aware from Lavasoft.
Free download, have used it for years (literally).
Simple, free, it works.

For anti-virus AVG is a free download (you have to register using a valid e-mail address).
Again, simple, free and effective.

Firewall ? Sygate is simple, free, and effective.

My brother managed to fix the problem by chance. He found a program called "Hijack This" and it fixed our problems. Thank you all for your help anyway.

For a good/free firewall you could also check out ZoneAlarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/comparison.jsp?lid=pdb_za2

And Spybot for another free spyware finder: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

I also use AVG and Ad-aware...good stuff!

I would also recommend gettin XP. ME is the worst windows ever IMO. My Dell 866 had ME and would either crash or freeze after about 7 minutes of use. Then I reformatted and put on XP and it works great, just a little slow.
