Daily Dose of the Truth 07/04/04

Good evening friends and foes.. Since there seems to be a right-wing version of this concept. I thought I should start my own daily dose.. except mine won't be of the "right" thought, I thought I'd try the truth instead.

Here's a great link that describes the man who is going to assume power in Iraq thanks to the American "liberation" I bet he will never oppress any one. Oh, a side note.. he was Ayatollah Khomeni's teacher. He's one of the last 5 Grand Ayatollahs left in the world and the most powerful man in Iraq. This article tells you all about him and how he already influences the Americans to change the way they wanted to do things.

http://www.lebanonwire.com/0403/04030602IND.asp

As a public service... I thought I would include this link, It's about a war criminal that has yet to be handed over to the Chile government for his war crimes. Henry Kissinger, you can read all about his war crimes here.

http://www.zpub.com/un/wanted-hkiss.html

Let's get back to the news shall we!

Here's an article that says that if you disagree with the occupation of Iraq you're a freedom hater according to the president of the United States.

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/sns-ap-bush-iraq-problems,0,923795.story?coll=ny-nationhomepage-headlines

Here's more evidence of how Bush has exploited 9/11 for his own political gain and keeps using New York. How he hasn't come through on any thing he promised New York after 9/11 and is now going to try to use them even further by having the GOP convention there and how he is failing to protect New York despite it being a traget for terrorist.

http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040419&s=newfield

Here's a story about how Americans are being received around the world and why..

http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040419&s=klein

In this article Naomi Klein demands that Bush be held to his lies.

http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040223&s=klein

At this site you can get a daily dose of the truth all given to you in video format. Kewl huh!

http://www.moveon.org/front/

To end on a lighter note.. I thought I would add a few of my favourite flash movies.

In this one you can learn all about America's love affair with Saddam

http://www.ericblumrich.com/thanks.html

This one is a great one about war crimes

http://www.ericblumrich.com/PD.html

Last but not least a message to every American who is of age to vote.. This btw is my favourite one of all!

http://www.ericblumrich.com/ihr.html

Well that's all for today.. Just remember to read and view all the links, this is the first step to becoming unbrainwashed. I have faith you can do it!

Date Edited..lol :P

yes, because we all know that the truth is only found in liberalism...

*roll*

Weren't you the one that kept getting after me whenever I used words like "know" instead of "believe"? I think I should equally get after you for your labelling this crap as the "truth," along with everything else left of center.

Oh, I freely admit it's completely biased.. well with the exception of actually the first link.. that one is kind of scary and true.. the rest is just in response to Panhandlia's Daily Dose he posts.. hehe.. he drives me nuts with all his links he doesn't even read. At least I can honestly say I have at least read every thing I linked to and or watched.

Like I said.. it's all rather slanted.. but the first link isn't.. and it's what we see going down in Iraq right now.. the media is really down playing it I think.. *shrug*

This is a thread even Red Arrow wouldn't have the audacity to post.Oh come on--this has nothing to do with Steph's job as a mod, and she's one of the best about giving reasons as to why she makes the decisions she does.

And by the way, there are a number of mods who have stated their political positions openly in the past. Being a mod doesn't mean you can't take sides in a debate--it just means you have to be fair in your dealings with all sides, and Steph is scrupulous in that.

At least we all agree on a day lasts for 24 hours. Everything gets confined in "Twenty Four Hours of the Day". 8a.m. = 0800. 8p.m. = 0800 + 1200 = 2000. sth like that

Don't talk crap. This is nothing to do with the people of America as such. It is all to do with the vile and cruel right wing politicians of America. Can you not understand that the same point would be made regarding Canada or the UK if the situation was similar. Stop whining about being American. Get rid of the power abusers in Washington.

I've read all the articles and I hope more people do. Personally I was most moves by the penultimate link demonstrating the blood-thirsty greed of the Bush regime.

Americans; never before has your government been detested so widely, so much. It has one principle: $

For that dollar, it will fight to the last American and any other bloody national it can use. What it won't do is fight itself, nor even give up positions of power.

Shame on those who still support murdering gangster government in the land that once stood as a beacon of peace and freedom.

Can you not understand that the same point would be made regarding Canada or the UK if the situation was similar. Stop whining about being American. Get rid of the power abusers in Washington.

And this would be the exact sentiment I'm talking about. I'm not happy with my government at the moment and that's why I speak out about it whereever I can to whomever I can regardless of the consequences. I volunteer my time, money and skills to organizations determined to remove the current tyrannical administration from power come this November. However, instead of other countries saying, "Wow, this really must suck for you guys," and showing support for those of us who are trying to get our country back on track, they choose to lump us all in as "Americans" and assume we're all illiterate, poorly-educated, poorly-travelled, fast-food monsters who only care about oil and money. Yet, should we try to make any sort of generalization ourselves, like, every country on the planet has it's downsides and less-than-productive citizens, we're immediately lambasted as arrogant isolationists. It's this kind of hypocritical attitude that sometimes makes it hard to see the point in being anything but what other countries imagine we are because we've already been condemned for it.

People are quick to point out that US citizens (notice how I'm trying not to say "Americans" because there are many other nations on the continents that comprise the Americas) are unable to find the countries we invade on a world map. Are you honestly telling me that the average, work-a-day citizen of Canada or Britain has any more idea where Sudan or Iraq is? I find that hard to believe. Most people in most countries are concerned with what is immediately before them. Period. I admit that our foreign policy, at the moment, is arrogant to say the least. But the general attitude seems to be that we are the first country to ever show overweening pride and a reach that not only exceeds our grasp but completely undermines our understanding of the world. This is simply not true. Colonial Britain. Imperial Rome. Mongolian China. Modern Day France. That's just naming a few. There seems to be this attitude that just because these nations are older than ours, their citizens are somehow endowed with advanced wisdom, apparently passed down through some sort of hereditary memory. The simple fact is, every nation makes mistakes. We're making ours right now. There are those of us here who are trying to mitigate them and, instead of heaping condemnation on us and acting like you personally are the sole arbiter of right and wrong, you could damn well show us some support because it's very, very freaking lonely.

I've read all the articles and I hope more people do. Personally I was most moves by the penultimate link demonstrating the blood-thirsty greed of the Bush regime.

Who's arguing? They're looting our country and despoiling our way of life. I'm pissed and doing all I can to see them removed because, despite the clues, I still have faith in our system of government. But being constantly attacked by snobbish countrymen who have just as much blood on their hands doesn't make anyone's position any easier.

Americans; never before has your government been detested so widely, so much. It has one principle: $

Quite probably true. So how about you help those of us who are working for change out by showing us some support and opposed to attacking us all en masse and making it even harder for us to illustrate to our countrymen why being a part of the world and not "Supreme Totalitarian Ruler" of it is a good thing.

For that dollar, it will fight to the last American and any other bloody national it can use. What it won't do is fight itself, nor even give up positions of power.

What? That's what we're trying to do now. My God, the rhetoric is amazing but the action is hard. Stop pointing a finger and investigate your own country. I'm sure you'll find atrocities.

Shame on those who still support murdering gangster government in the land that once stood as a beacon of peace and freedom.

And still does, although we're tattered and torn. We are a young country. We are experiencing growing pains. EVERY COUNTRY ON THE PLANET THAT HAS PLAYED A PIVOTAL ROLE IN WORLD AFFAIRS HAS REACHED THIS POINT AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. It has generally ended badly, as it looks like this will. We are learning. I'm truly happy that every single person on the planet is smarter, more educated, more moral and just, in general, better than your average American. However, which encourages us more, the constant beating, regardless of our actions, or a sincere attempt to show us there is more to be gained from cooperation than isolation?

I think my main problem is I use the term "Americans" to loosely... when I says "Americans" I am almost always talking about the administration, not the people.. I am fully aware that more people voted for the "other guy" in 2000. I do realize that less then 50% of the 50% of people who voted, actually voted for this mad man you have as a president. I have many, many American friends. I even have some American friends who think Bush is a good president.. I don't make friends based on who they voted for, but rather for their own merit. Of course I can be friends with a conservative.. although I will admit I probably could never be friends with a neo-con which is the extreme far right.. they are just to far out in la la land for me. I can and agree to disagree.. Sure I get heated in my political views... as Little Stevens once said, "Nothing is more personal then some one's politics" .. yet do I dislike a whole nation of people based upon what I think is a mad man in the White House? Hell, of course not.

I'm really much more reasonable then I may appear.. I just like to get in the thick of it when I debate issues.. I can't think of any one on this forum I hate.. I do have a few people I don't really like.. but it's based on their personality.. (or in my opinion lack of one) not their political views.

I hope that helps you to understand my position better... and no I don't dislike you at all because you're an American. I don't dislike you period.

Berk, I made it crystal clear that my comments were about the Bush regime. You say you agree with me but then make what you yourself decry. A blanket defence of America. What the bloody hell can I do here in GB except urge Americans not to allow the gangster back in? I think that Americans have heard so much anti-Bush stuff over the past few years that they cannot help mixing anti-Bush with anti-America. It is that stupid assumption that anti-Bush equals anti-America that often drives people, including me, to then descend into yankee-bashing.

'I'm truly happy that every single person on the planet is smarter, more educated, more moral and just, in general, better than your average American'

Steph and I debate in her IRC channel quite often, and although we dont see eye to eye, at least we're not so absorbed in rhetoric that we cant debate the facts. Granted, I do get frustrated by her hardline 'liberal' stance, and I get frustrated that she's not willing to give the other side a chance, but, hey, at least we're not debating using rhetorical all or nothing comments.

Where did I do this? If I implied such a blanket acceptance of our policy, then I must have mistyped and I apologize. What we are currently doing in the terms of world politics is inexcusable and downright dangerous. I do believe, however, that we are not the only country to ever be guilty of such hubris and that to accuse us without at the same time admitting this is either hypocracy or willful ignorance.

What the bloody hell can I do here in GB except urge Americans not to allow the gangster back in?

How about working on your fellow countrymen. The last time I was in London (which was the end of last year), I walked in on a conversation where the salesperson at a clothing store was telling a customer that all United States citizens are exactly like what you see on Jerry Springer. That was obviously as silly as me saying all British are exactly like what we see on Eastenders.

May be you do. I don't know. All I know is that in response to a fairly innocuous little comment I made to Stephistan, you lashed into me in a very unfair way.

I think that Americans have heard so much anti-Bush stuff over the past few years that they cannot help mixing anti-Bush with anti-America. It is that stupid assumption that anti-Bush equals anti-America that often drives people, including me, to then descend into yankee-bashing.

Well, that's a very convenient justification for indulging in nasty manners. The, "Look what you made me do," argument doesn't work for wife beaters and shouldn't apply here. You have a concious choice in your actions and how you present yourself to the world. If you have a problem with our government, fine, I probably do agree with you. If you expect me to shoulder the blame for you being sloppy in your definitions and 'provoking' you to ceaselessly attack not only our government but the people of my nation, I refuse to do so. You're an adult. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

(I'm sure he'll deny the good heart part..lol) Sure we don't see eye to eye on politics.. however, if you're judging who you can and can't be friends with based purely on their political view.. then that is a rather narrow scope that I certainly don't agree with.

Also, I would never be presumptuous enough to tell you the articles I post contain the absolute truth. Hell, most of them are opinion pieces...but in your leftist circles, opinions appear to turn into "truth," just because you believe in them.

In any case, the old "Panhandlia doesn't even bother reading the articles he links" whine is getting kind of old and tired. Why not try some more of that "originality" you have displayed and use Myrth's mantra from last night? That would make you a little more interesting.
