Some will agree with the first option.
Others (and I admire them) take this issue with varying degrees of seriousness and do a lot of really useful things involving self discipline.
As for me, I'm rather lazy about it but I do a least a few things like some garbage recycling, trying to make the right consumer choices in certain things I buy, trying to conserve electricity and fuels etc. It's not nearly enough though and I should be doing more.
Ok, I generally like the environment and am all for conservation and wonderful things like that. My problem is that the pro-environment people are too often hippies. I loathe hippies to no end. For this reason, I must limit my environmental concerns so as to distance myself as far as possible from those lazy stoner hippies. Does that make sense?

Do whatever the hell you want.
Do whatever the hell you want.
All Right :D

I have to say, the Republicans aren't really known for enviromental preservation. I'm a Republican, and I do feel a few simple things will go a long way. Turn off lights when not in a room. Recycle (the town I live in recycles plastics 1- 8 ) .Little things like that. I'm also appaled by Bush's stance on the environment so far.
However, I must admit that I have my doubts when it comes to global warming, and I think the Kyoto treaty is unecessary.

I hear ya. It's the same reason I don't go to anti-war protests even though I agree with that cause. If activists *truly* wanted to be effective, they wouldn't try so hard to look & act in way that's guaranteed to antagonize & alienate the vast majority of mainstream people. In my more paranoid moments I imagine that the stoner-hippie tribe is actually a government plot to sabotage environmentalism and the peace movement. But that would be ridiculous...wouldn't it?
That said, I'll be damned if I'm gonna let the stoner-hippies drive me away from good causes and into the arms of evil. You shouldn't either.
Recycle the hippies! They'll be "happy little clouds" ((c) Bob Ross) in the next life. Or not.

I don't live the "green lifestyle", but I did make the decision not to drive. I haven't had a driving license for seven years now.
That decision was more influenced by money issues than enviroment concerns, but it keeps my conscience clean as well.

I think doing a few simple and easy things is all we need to do - recycle is a big one. I don't think the future will be as grim as some environmentalists like to say it will be unless we do certain things, though. Turning off the light and stuff like that really is no biggie though, so I don't mind doing it, and hey if it saves a few trees and gives us a bit cleaner air to breathe, I'm OK with it.
You know, if we burned rubbish and used it for energy instead of dumping it in a giant field not only would we have extra energy but we'd also be producing less greenhouse gases since the gas generated by garbage (methane) is more harmful than carbon dioxide to the environment. We also wouldn't have to worry about landfill.

i like the environment and i think we should be taking more care of it.
To the hippie haters out there. Try talking to one of them before forming an opinion. You will realize that most of them are not the potheads you think they are. Sure some of them use drugs, but then so do most of the country's CEOs. I know several people that would be looked at and called a hippie, these people don't even drink let alone do drugs. They are highly intelligent, warm, caring, and loving people. At least they are out there trying to do something about the problems in our country. What are you doing?

Okay, hippies are terrible. Even if they are not stoner-hippies, they are probably pretentious vegan-hippies which is bad news also. I know several hippie-esque people and they are cool to hang out with for a time, but they are weird and their dorm rooms generally reek of feces. Down with hippies!! Both of the stoner and vegan variety.
I save the world by having steak every week or so, thus saving the world from the deadly methane released by cows. 8)

Why not just start a protest. "Down with Hippies". It worked so well at Berkley and at Kent State.

What a great way to debate an issue: attack the personality or style of those with whom you disagree.

Here's a better idea: Mine the landfills for methane, and burn that for energy. It's cleaner, I assure you.
Governments need to get more involved. There's this one guy in Canada named Jack Layton who has a plan to "green" the environment while creating jobs. I really, really, like it.

Governments need to get more involved. There's this one guy in Canada named Jack Layton who has a plan to "green" the environment while creating jobs. I really, really, like it.
Trouble with Layton is that his NDP party gets most of its financial support from Big Labour. A political party that's controlled by Big Labour can easily be just as unfriendly to the environment as one controlled by Big Business.
When a government tries to compel owners of big, polluting industries to clean up, these industries threaten to downsize workers to pay for it. Then the employee Unions say "Oh no, our members' jobs are much more important than the environment." In places where the NDP has governed and been caught between the demands of Labour Unions and protecting the environment - guess whose interests get catered to?
Canada also has a Green Party that's far more strong on the environment than the NDP will ever be. I really wish all modern-thinking young members of the NDP would move over to The Greens.
The union members can still keep their jobs. Jack Layton knows how to create environmentally friendly jobs and balance the books doing it. He's a fighter for the environment, and I'd be proud to vote for him.

Still think global warming is a myth?
We only have one planet people, what does it take to open peoples eyes and get them to take care of it? It's not hard to put a little effort in and simply not litter, not drive everywhere, and seperate your recyclables. Unfortunately, most lazy slobs can't be bothered to take the trouble to carry a gumwrapper 15 feet to the nearest trashcan much less actually walk to the corner market.

We need to seriously start thinking about our environment and how we abuse it. Although I admit I could do more, we need to think of how bad we are polluting it with our cars and other things. Maybe just doing a little will go farther then we actually realize.
