I'm proud to be straight

Yep, proud to be straight. I don't hate homosexuals and think that they are children of our heavenly father just like everyone else.

It's no more or less valid than the [massive] "I'm proud to be gay" thread, which has obviously thrived. At least he's happy.

Good for you! :)

Eeew, what use is this topic? It serves no purpose. If you want to make a statement come back once your gay.

This thread smacks of people who start "White Pride" parades, events, etc. for no other reason than to ANTAGONIZE blacks and to betray a deeply rooted bigotry.

But he's not setting out to antagonise anyone (at least, not at all well): Which makes it sound very much like your saying it's not alright to be proud of heterosexuality - and that is bigotry my friend.

Makes a statement and then drops an IGNORE bomb?

Almost right. Here in general there is no such thing as an IGNORE bomb. Some people use IGNORANT bombs however...

as has been covered in the aforementioned "I'm proud to be gay" thread, being proud to be gay was more about being proud to have come out and stood up against all the bigotry against homosexuality. it's not about being proud that you sleep with people of the same gender, it's about being proud of yourself for remaining true to your desires in the face of all the people who just can't handle differences.

frankly, this thread is pretty pathetic, since it is obviously nothing more than an attempt to antagonize other people. being an "out" heterosexual means nothing, and i don't know anybody who thinks it is harder to be straight than gay in this world right now.

I think Roskelley may have started this thread with the intent to see what kind of responses would come back. Since Joe Stalin received so many positive responses to his 'Proud to be Gay' thread, it makes sense to see how people would react to a 'Proud to be Straight' thread.

He even stated that he believes homosexuals to be children of God and that he bears no hatred towards them.

Despite this statement, some still insist that he's a homophobe with the worst intentions. The fact that this thread antagonizes anybody illustrates the point that unless you're a minority member, you'd better not be proud of yourself. Otherwise, you'll be branded an ultraconservative Nazi klansman.

"pride" is quite an interesting word. I think you can only be proud of someting you chose to be or to do. But you can't chose to be straight or gay. It's not a matter of conscience! pride is! So you might be happy or lucky to be straight or gay or whatever, just be it!

Quite frankly, spread the love. Male, Female, Hetero, Homo, Bi, Trans, I don't care who you are; give love and recieve it in return. Nothing feels as good as being loved and being able to express it fully. I'm proud when I get laid. Its as simple as that. ;)

As long as you're proud also the next day, after you got laid that is, it's all right...

Gotta second that.

Its facinating to see the extreme responces Roskelley got. I mean, how the hell is he/she trying to antagonize anyone or promoting the idea that he/she thinks it is equally though to be straight as it is to be gay in this world? NO WHERE.... I guess people's prejudice allows them to read in a post what their prejudice wants them to see. :( So much for 'objectivity'.

I am NOT pround to be straight. I am not ashamed either. It is just what I am.

I am not proud to have two legs, or internet access either! Again, that is just something I have.

I do not see this thread as homophobic or anything really. It will be interesting to see what other responses are posted here.

Roskelley, when I posted my Pride message, I gave the reasons why I was proud to be the person I am as a (part) result of living life as a Gay person in a predominantly homophobic environment. I applaud you for your pride in your straight lifestyle. I would just prevail upon you to expand on what aspests of being straight make you proud?

Actually, there might be something to this. Homophobia and other hatred is often a result of some unresolved issue a person has with him or her self. (I won't speculate in repressed closet gayness and such, I'll leave that to the psychologists.) If people could manage to become more aware of themselves and take more pride in who and what they were this world might be a better place. "Know thy self" in short.

Or maybe I'm just spouting pseudo-psychological nonsense... :)

i am neither proud nor shamed to be a heterosexual who does not
recreationaly anesthisize myself

i do so not out of any merrit nor in persuit of any nor believe one
sexual or social preferance any more greately moral then another
but rather simply that this is who am, and that it avoids detracting
attention from those issues that are of far greater interest to me

though the civil rights of those whose prefrences are other then
my own are near and dear to my heart as well

and that whatever the 'moral status' of homosexuality,
the demeaning of it and its adhierents can only be of far less

bennifit is after all bennifit
and harm is ultimately and after all harm

and what anyone goes to bed with, where, when or how often, is of no
direct pertenance to any moral question what so ever
