I'm with you dude - AFI are awesome. Saw them live at the HI-FI bar in Melbourne last year, best band I have ever seen live. I have brought my AFI CD's to China with me.

How weird was it that they just got big all of a sudden? Been into them for years then all of a sudden everyone know about them. I think this is good thing, it's about time some decent musicans got a leg up.

Pissed hey? Would join ya, but can't drink for another 2 weeks because I just had my appendix out.

Thank you! In fact, I withdraw my claim that AFI are crap. They are just annoying, like this Mandy Kane fellow. What the hell is the deal with him?

He looks punk, but he's pure shit!

Mandy Kane is just a low budget rip off of NIN and some crappy techno/pop bands. I LOATHE him.

Ok, by the time we reach Sydney (or was it Melbourne) we should have half the country or at least all the metalheads behind us with bullet belts, clubs, steel pipes and what not.

AFI still suck. Their music is uninspired, repeditive and boring.

Have to agree with you, Black Sails is damn good.

Yeah, okay, if you don't like them fair enough. No need to get that way. What bands/music do you AFI haters like?

A lot of old rock. Like the stuff in the 70s and 80s, like good ol' Led Zepplin. *drools*

Actually, you can't really compare AFI to anyone because there is no one like them, but I do prefer Bad Religion.

Besides simply saying "<Place band name here> sUx0rz!!!1!" perhaps explaining why you feel that way towards them would be a little more helpful.

Personally, I like Korn, A Perfect Circle, Finger Eleven, NIN, Tool, System of a Down, Chevelle, and many, many others.

Sure you can compare AFI to somone, The Misfits. Picture it, Danzig era Misfits, except put a pair of vice grips on Danzig's nuts and there you go, AFI.

I heard it on the Tic once, a cartoon. I started up the nation when I was all screwed up on medication for a bad appendix, which I have since had removed. The Muppet Show, I love that show and miss it to all hell.

I know allot of people who like punk but don't like AFI, fair enough. What bands are you into? Don't mind some hardcore myself and I think I like what you'd call 'stoner rock'.

Blue Viper - Led Zepplin - used to like them as well, still don't mind them. Got to say Rolling Stones go off, especially Paint it, Black.

Bad Religion, now there's a good band. Let me guess, there are some Black Flag fans here?

"Yes We Have No Bananas" was a song, pre-WWII, possibly earlier. It had to do with the occupation of banana-producing islands, there's a whole history to it. It was a hugely popular song at one point, 80 or so years ago.

Naw, it was the title of a 1939 Three Stooges movie. "Yes, We Have No Bananas," it was called. Good film.

I had no idea (an Aussie punk band, No Idea) my nations name had such a long and proud history to it. I feel proud to be the leader of such a place now.

I've heard at ATD-I, Muse(I like them as well :P) had one of their videos up on Rage when they hosted it. Scissors I think it was called. I've got to get some songs, I know they split to form The Mars Volta and Sparta tho.

And Thrice tend t piss me off, actually anything remotely emo tends to piss me off - that said i like one or two songs depending on my mood.

Also I have the episode of the Muppet Show on my computer in which they use the song Yes We Have No Bananas, it involves a choir of fruit and vegetables. Its the episode that Steve Martin guest stars in.

Yeah, I know it was on the muppet show. It was a big saying and cultural reference for at least 30 years during the 20's, 30's and 40's and was said in a few hundred thousand t.v. shows, movies and radio broadcasts. That's all I'm saying.

That would be One Armed Scissor, awesome song. I have it on CD, it's probably one of my favourite CD's. Mars Volta are good, missed seeing them in Melb because I left for a China the week before. Don't mind emo, just haven't really gotten into Thrice (admitedly, I have only heard a few songs)

Roy Del Fuego - thanks, I just listened to it. You learn something new everyday. "Yes! We have no bananas today"

AFI stands for A Fire Inside. They are American, see, can't say I'm 'anti-American', a term that still puzzles me. If I dislike Morocco dose that make me 'anti - Moroocan'? I have been called in the past becasue I don't agree with allot of what the US government dose. I suppose that makes me 'anti - Australian' too, I think our governments foriegn policy is a joke.

The good shit, like Sex Pistols, The Clash, and whatnot. Sid Vicious and London Calling.

AFI isn't really a band. It's led by a no-talent pissant with no ability to sing whatsoever. ALl he does is freakin' whine about shit in all his songs. He looks like he ripped off the fashion of Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth (www.theorderofthedragon.com) and parades it like a parody of Norwegian Metal. AFI is an aggravating band. THe more one listens to their mainstream piss, the more one becomes enraged at them for pumping out this same batch of crap in every LP.

The lead singer of AFI is on the top of my list of people I would one day like to approach and punch in the face. I feel I would be justified in breaking that man's skull with my fist.

Only good could come of it.

"Blah blah blah...I'm soo old-school and hardcore!"

Thought I'd sum up for you the content of what you just said, since it's pretty clearly not an informed opinion. Do you know anything about this band, it's history, or it's music; or did you just see their name on a top 10 list, watch "Silver and Cold," and decide to hate them?

AFI's work is pretty artistic, and quite good music. Lyrics are complex and the music style is hard to compare to anything else - nearly impossible to place in a genre. Of course, to say that you have to be aware of their numerous albums before "Sing the Sorrow" (their first album to be "mainstreamed") and to have actually looked into their stuff, but I wouldn't ask you to tear yourself away from your decades-old punk albums to educate yourself.

Oh, and thanks for the fashion critique. Obviously you latch onto the important things in music, such as ("Like, oh...my...Gawd...") who must be ripping off whose look.

As for other comments of more substance, I also think it's a little simplistic to say their style is exactly like the Misfits. Havok obviously takes some influence from them, but the styles and content are quite different. Misfits had more of a jagged edge, while AFI is more smooth. The former does not a superior band make, though the work of the Misfits is superior horror rock.

I like AFI a great deal. I think their music is original and I like the direction in which the band has progressed. I wouldn't classify them as punk, or anything else for that matter. Then again, I see genres and categories as arbitrary, and try not to let them influence my opinion of music.

Rush? Are you kidding?
