10th Anniversary of the passing of Kurt Cobain.

A sad day today, Kurt was a genius and a consumate artist, a giant of his times and he remains an enduring and posotive influence on alternative (real) rock music. Thanks Kurt.

It gave me such a big smile on my face to find out about the tenth anniversary of Kurt Cobain's (Kabang) death. What a waste of skin he was, he couldn't go on living making millions of dollars, raising his kid, and staying married to his wife. No! He had to be one of the most selfish pieces of s**t and put a big old gun to his head and blow his brains out. Thank God he can't reproduce any more loosers like he was.

I find it ironic that today's disaffected youth who feel betrayed and misunderstood by their parents continue to idolize a coward who betrayed his own child in one of the worst possible ways.

Kurt Cobain's career probably would have ended by now, anyway, even if he had lived. How many artists have been propelled to fame with alcohol- and drug-influenced songs only to have their careers come crashing down once they kick the habit and have to rely on their sober minds for new material? When I was in ninth grade, a poet sat in front of me in study hall. I read through a sheaf of his poems and found one that seemed to be particularly deep. He told me he had written in while stoned on pot. The rest of his poetry sucked. ~ Michael.

how can you people criticize Kurt like this?? do any of you have any idea what depression can be like? Kurt suffered from this, along with a severe stomach pain that was uncurable. He was in so much pain, and only heroin helped it. of course he had to quit doing that so he just lived in constant pain. he did not abandon Frances, he just couldn't live. just because you people feel normal, does not mean that everyone else does and you should take that into consideration before you go saying that he was a waste.

I am not without sympathy and empathy for Kurt Cobain, but I still believe that those with responsibilities to others who opt for suicide are taking the coward's way out. If he had not have had a child, then the situation would have been much different.

I'm sorry to put Cobain on a stage with such men as Johnny Cash, Jim Morrison, Jimmi Hendrix, Beatles..these men were true men of stature and changers of music...cobain..a passing fad..grunge lasted what..4 yrs mebbe?

And Cobain's problem's were selfish..speaking as a recovering alchoholic I know...his family should have come first.

Whether you like Nirvana's music or not (I personally don't), you have to admit that it continues to be a strong influence on contemporary music to this day. For the moment we will just pass over the fact that they looted and ransacked all their best ideas from The Pixies...

not to mention (in reverse chronological order, more or less) Mudhoney, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, and The Stooges amongst countless others. Now I'm not much of a Nirvana fan, but music IS after all an ongoing process of influence, development and in some cases direct plagiarism - each of the above mentioned bands drew some degree of musical influence from the previous one (or their contemporaries) and so it goes on. Anyway I digress; sad that he died (for his fans), tragic that he died (for his family) etc - personally I can't see what all the fuss was about: Nirvana were just one of many similar bands that were around at the time (Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr, Teenage F C, Loop, Soundgarden to name just a few) and (IMO) not a patch on most of them.

A passing fad= Salishe

Grunge lasted longer then 4 years and it is older as Nirvana. Sonic Youth existed before Nirvana, Juliana Hatfield, The Pixies, Frank Black (Solo) all Grunge and older as Bleech.

"mebbe" wow, so old fashioned

It is true that it was irresponsible for him to abandon his kid like that, but then again, if he had lived, his kid might have turned in to the next Kurt Cobain. So really it's six of one, half dozen of the other. But any way you look at it, this guy was a pot-smoking loser. Let's help everyone out and make him forgotten history.

Today is also the tenth anniversary of the genocide in Ruanda.

...and a good guy I know from another message board, and whom I really want to have known better, killed himself too today, or yesterday, I'm uncertain about the timzeone.

Shit man, that's depressing. :(

Was it a copycat suicide, or was it coincidence?

Though one or two of his songs were alright, most of Mr Cobain's work struck me as narcotic induced garbage.
