Bad stand up

AHHHHH!!!!

:::Frantically attempts to block ears:::

The bar where I do much of my evening (local time) posting, decided to allow a lousy wanna-be stand up on stage. It was just sad.

I really have no qualms about it, except:
1) Choice of audience 1 - Tuesday night is "DJ night", and the regular DJ is a R&R guy. The audience talked over the poor guy for most of his performance..
2) Suitable Material and Audience - The Tuesday night crowd is mostly long term foreigners and Japanese. The stand-up's material was old hat or over the head of most of the audience.
3) Preparation - Never, ever, EVER have prepared notes. If you do, DO NOT consult them mid-performance! And most certainly not three times.

(BTW, I have done stand up up here before. At this very bar. I will be gently offering advice to the poor fellow, so no "you don't know what it's like", thank you... :wink: )

As valid as your points are, I'm going to ignore them because you triple posted this thread.

? I was about to blame it on the server, but then I looked. I don*t see but one copy....
(It is possible some nice mod cleaned it up without comment. If so thank you! If not, I am confused...)

Anyway, I was very nice and offered my insights from experience. He is on again next Tuesday. I hope he does better.

There are two things I really hate to see: performers who do little more than embarrass themselves, and overly enthusiastic people opening a business that will doubtless fail. Such great optimism crushed...

You mean my stand-up Thai carryout is a bad idea? :(

Sit-down is better.

Sit-down is better.

I once saw a whole show of "sit-down" - each performer was in a wheelchair. It was quite 8)

I remember a few years ago i had a really cool drama teacher who got us to do standup. Most people were terrible because it' was high school, painfully terrible, actually, but one or two people were awesome!
