Why I no longer involve myself with politics

Misinformation, pure and simple.

Every time I get into debate with someone over politics, both me and my opponent cite and quote our sources until we're blue in the face. On every single occasion, my opponent gives me a fact or statistic that might have changed my opinion for the better, and visa versa. On almost every occasion, we both quote facts and statistics that show completely different results for the same issue.

I'm tired of making an ass out of myself because I havent heard the entire story, and just as tired of making an ass out of others who have been just as misinformed.

I honestly dont care how this comes to pass, or who's right or wrong. What bothers me the most is that on almost every political issue, facts and statistics are issued by different sources, and they always differ.

The simple fact is that in a Democratic society, no one can make an intelligent descision unless they are properly informed. No one can be properly informed, however, in our current situation in which no more than 5 people control all of what we see and hear about the world around us.

Someone once said that it was the moral obligation of a citizen of a democratic government to vote. I believe, just as adamantly, that it is just as morally wrong to vote on an issue on which you havent been properly informed. That is why I no longer invlove myself with politics

that makes sense. You find a dissenting view and run away from the debate.

Your using one of the greatest sources of unedited world wide information to post your little gripe. Put a little effort into becoming more informed, if you let those '5 people' package and forcefeed you what they want you to hear, you have only yourself to blame for your plight.
