Has the forum actually ever changed your opinion?

With all this discussion, arguement and flaming going on, has the forum ever changed your opinion on a subject?

It seems to me that no arguement in any thread has ever been won, instead people leave feeling that 'lefties really are the work of the devil'etc.

Well i'd like to think that i am wrong, and we aren't all really arrogant, so post your examples here.

Changed it? No.
Modified it? Yes.
Most recently, someone taking the time to explain how they believe removing 'ownership' of airwaves from FCC hands would be beneficial helped me to understand aspects I had not looked at previously. So, yes, I modified my opinion to allow that true free enterprise among broadcast companies might allow for real improvements. (I do still have concerns that without decent controls in place to prevent media monolopies in broadcast ares, the people of those areas could end up with no dissenting voice to popular rhetoric. However, I also see that the controls wouldn't have to be extreme to work.)

I don't read the posts here to have my opinions changed, validated, confirmed, or agreed with. I read them to understand what others believe, and to find information and perspectives I was not previously aware of. I actually spend a lot of time researching what someone said - to further understand their view and get even more perspectives on it , especially where it is a concept or issue I hadn't considered before. If that results in a change to my stance or development of an opinion, Yay! Opinions that we don't re-examine become bricks in the tunnel of narrow vision.

somewhat; i have become more strongly opposed to Communist ideology since joining Nationstates, as i have been exposed to more of the people on both sides of the debate and have encountered more reasoning and evidence for and against.

Some aspects of religion...I've seen a small number smart people that are quite religious when I believed there were none...

And I thought that the general ignorance of a certain english speaking nation was exaggerated...Now I don't.

Not majorly, but little ideas have certainly changed over time. I do not know if that is the forum's doing though.

Never changed or modified it. I'm too set in my ways to let a few well strung together sentences posted on an online forum alter my opinions and beliefs.

However, a select few posts have broadened my mind and exposed me to unusual opinions on the standard debate topics (abortion, religion, homosexual marriage, etc). And I'm grateful for that, I've never believed that ignorance is bliss.
