Allow me to say one thing. The Internet is NOT a place to find companionship. There really isn't a plus side to "dating" online. If you really want a girlfriend, then go out and look for one. How old are you, kid? You have a lot to learn. First of all, you are not likely to even find a girl who lives anywhere near you on this forum. Second, if you do find a girl here, she is almost certainly going to be morbidly obese. Third, "she" will probably be a homo/bisexual guy who at best wants to masturbate to your conversations, and at worst will stalk and rape and kill you.

Claddagh, I respect the name you have. I never said that anyone in here was faking what sex they were. I'm just saying that the forums of NationStates is probably not a very promising area to find someone to "hook up" with locally. If he wants to advertise his singleness, there is sure to be a listing of some sort in his local newspaper. Depending on his age, he could go to a single's bar, or some safe parties held by the city around where he lives.

I find it a little weird that you say you're "looking for a girlfriend", it makes it sound like you don't care about the person you care about the status. But even if you're just going to look for a chick, heck even if you're going to look online, for the love of whomever you worship DON'T USE NATIONSTATES! Maybe you haven't looked into some of the spammier/more hate-filled threads, as I see you haven't posted much, but really, this site has a larger concentration of jerks than I expect the world in general. If you're looking online, use a dating site, then you're more likely to find people your speed.

I dunno man, I sympathize about needing to find a girlfriend, 18, by the way, but i don't think that the Internet is the best place to look, in my experiences, Internet relationships fail 9 times outta 10, and its really not worth it. NOT to say you CANT meet someone on line, but the odds are stacked against you

Amazingly enough Internet relationships do work out sometimes, I met my wife online about a year ago (On another site, though we went on a date to a party here on a weekend night in June). There are people around here who know the meaning of respect, even if it can be hard to find. But hey, its just like that in the real world anyway. Anyone you meet at a dating service could be an axe murderer and you wouldn't know it. Like anywhere else, you just have to take the proper precautions.

I disagree with your assertion that your ideal long term boyfriend/girlfriend won't fall in your lap. I've found (more than once) that when you're not looking, the right person comes along without you having to do anything. You just have to know to take up the opportunity.
