Freedom of Choice

UncleBob
03-04-2004, 12:30
God gave Freedom of Choice to you
He gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

You know it
I know it
Everyone knows it
God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

You can learn to live or you can be a monk
your decisions will take you anywhere
what will be the value of your life when your time is up
you can play football
you can play guitar
you can learn to rap
or you can be a geographer
what will be the value of your life when your time is up

God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

If you're not living right
you can turn around
and change your course
It's never too late to change your mind
You live by strict rules
or you can be free soul
you can let life take its toll
then again, it never too late to change your life

God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

You can take a stand
or you can compromise your values
you can work hard for what you want
or you can sit your on butt and dream all day
those who are immoral
are in no position to preach morality
those who are not abstinate
ought not preach abstinence
you can tell the special one
how much you love them
in case that tommorrow never comes
and when the darkness comes in like flood
you can beat it back by choosing to be the point of light
that takes a stand against it
you can choose to make right that which you see to be wrong
or you can go with the flow
But what will be the value of your life
when your time is up?

God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

You can premarital sex
or you can wait till marriage
You can kill the baby
or you can let it live
You can join the crowd
chanting for a woman to throw herself from the bridge
or you can pull her from the edge
you can be a scrooge
or you can be the one everyone looks to
you can be hopeless
or you can be the one who gives hope
you can make war
or you can make peace
you can kill
you can heal
you can create
you can destroy
the choice is yours
But what will be the value of your life
when your time is up

God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone

God gave freedom of choice to you
gave freedom of choice to you
He gave free will to everyone.

Yet who is god and how did he come to be able to give this "freedom". What is "freedom"?

Is it really freedom of choice if you ronly choices are paradise or burning for all eternity in a lake of fire.

That is like choosing between a million dollars and a kick in the groin...

Not much of a "freedom of choice" if you ask me.

This "freedom" iisn't real it's a figment of someones imagination and we're just ment to belive it.

The million dollars is the only viable option. Even if you're a masochist a million bucks could buy you more kicks in the groin than were previously offered.

It's like "join or die!" only one choice.

who is.
Is not have you been perfectly good
its whether or not
you've made a good impression in this life
that matters
hence the question: what will be the value of your life when your time is up?
being perfectly good is equivalent to being very bad
if you have not shown others the way to be good

its the legacy that you leave behind
that matters most

The freedom of choice, so often spoken of by the christians, is a myth. That is the point that I am trying to make.

I reallly can't see how we have "freedom of choice" seeing as if we choose the worng one we get to suffer.
UncleBob

when you get to the next world
can you say that you made a positive impact on this world
or will be the scrooge who helped no one cause he thought he was too good for everyone?
what effect does your life have on those around you
on those who you know
and those who you don't know
is it positive or is it negative
you choose what effect you will have on others

Not always.
God makes it to rain on both the righteous and the evil alike
and many times, god has allowed evil men to prosper

you can be angry and bitter at the world
you can withdraw from the world like a hermit or a monk
or you can help to make it a better place
but when you come face to face
with God in the next life
and he asks what you did with your life
and what value you made of it
what answer will you be able to give?

I go to a christian school though I'm not christian (I'm leaving it soon yay!) they say we have things like "freedom of choice" and that we must have faith but would you stake your whole life on the fact that in the and you MIGHT get one million dollars?

You mean we'll have commercial trips to Mars in my lifetime?

Cool.

Or did you mean Venus? Dunno if I want to go to Venus. Bit hot and cloudy. Kind of like a British summer. I get enough of that here.

you are talking here about being obssessed with being rewarded in the next world
but you should not make your decisions based on whether you will go to heaven or hell cause if you do, you will go to hell anyway
cause your heart will not be in the right place
rather, if you help others, let it be because you truely care about them
when you give your life for your loved one
let it be because you truely loved them
cause god knows who is sincere and who is not sincere
even though we mortals cannot tell the difference

Now that is screwed up. planet named after god of war = heaven ? planet named after goddess of love= hell ?

Whoever wrote that poem has some issues.

Yeah, Venus is a pretty inhospitable place, but Mars is a frozen desert. Not very heavenly, but probably like going to a whole planet sized antarctica cubed.

instead he died every man, woman, and child on earth
cause he didn't want it to be the other way.

God or not we don't have freedom of choice. Every event that happens was always going to happen; we can tell because it happened. And we can't create anything magically in our minds, either. However if freedom of choice means a freedom from God and the divine's influence, (which would be fair enough, though grossly unprovable,) then that means all holy scriptures are blatantly made up by people.

But gosh, how can anyone who believes in a good God also believe in Hell? It's insanely petty to punish someone for eternity simply for not returning your love and compassion, especially when there's absolutely no chance for redepemption.
