Bush's Nat'l Guard Service

I think the charges about Bush's national guard service are laughable. I think it is safe to say that these accusations come from people who voted for Billy Boy back in 1996. Let's compare these two elections, shall we?

1996 candidate:
Bob Dole (R)-wounded veteran, has a paralyzed hand due to injuries received serving his country.
2004 candidate:
John Kerry (D)-wounded veteran, received three purple hearts (enough for honorable discharge) two of which were for minor injuries.

Now, let's look at the others:
Bill Clinton (D)-waited out the war in Europe, no military service in Vietnam.
George Bush (R)-fulfilled military service in National Guard, no military service in Vietnam.

Clinton won the 1996 election.

Ah, the irony is sweet. Now the liberals are attacking Bush for doing something similar to what the person they voted for did.

I always thought bush's Coke issues and the drug test were better sticking points.

I always thought bush's Coke issues and the drug test were better sticking points. What coke issues? Get me a RELIABLE source on that and I'll consider it.

While you're looking, search "Vince Foster." He worked for the clinton administration. He was going to release some files concerning the Clintons, then he committed suicide. Forensics evidence proved that the body was moved afterwards. Before the feds had a warrant to search his office, Hillary Clinton went in. Once they got a warrant and searched the office, they found that several files concerning the Clintons were missing. They have never been found.

How about Bush's own admittance?
He submitted it himself, saying that he was abusing drugs and alchohol, DURING his NG tenure, and said that, that was why his records are murky, but remained on-base.

No one has treated the Guard worse than Dubya.

Double turns with no leave, inadequate medical care, inadequate equipment, the track record if terrible.

Our armed services need a real veteran as president.

George Bush (R)-fulfilled military service in National Guard, no military service in Vietnam.

From what I heard, from a pretty reliable source, Bush's national service during the Vietnam War was in a prestige unit, protecting an oil field (or something of the sort) in Texas......from any Vietcong attacks...

You have to admit it is honorable enough to do that. I mean, few soilders ever make a big difference in the army today.

Oh look, another anti-Clinton spin fest. Tell me, when was the choice ever decided solely based on military service? Oh, that's right, it's only one of many things, so your observation is flawed and your irony defective. Better ship it back under warranty.

It's been four years, and you people still can't get over gossiping about Clinton. Here's a novel idea, how about we address issues with the current president and why he ought to be tossed out on his -ss?

Maybe because all they've got is leftover anti-Clinton stuff, and they desperately hope it still works?

ok ok...Clinton sucked and Bush sucks. This stuff happens.
oh yeah by the way i have two friends in the Texas National Guard that are getting shipped to Iraq in June...And both are having a baby in May...i feel bad for them. But what can you do?

Well, America wasn't at war when Clinton was in power.. I think that's the relevant point. If you want to know what real service men thought of those who joined the national guard service during the Vietnam war.. pick up a copy of Colin Powell's book. It's a good read.

1) Did I say the election was based only on this?
2) Is there something about any of this that is false?

I am merely pointing out the hypocracy of this attack (the one discussed in my first post.) Also, I think it is never a good idea to elect one person just to get another out of office. Why, on his own merit, does John Kerry deserve to be on the ballot?

Your irony only works if military service is, at very least, a central issue. It's only one of a myriad of issues here (and only because funded deceit is involved, not just a lack of service), and in Clinton/Dole it was a minor blip. Combined with the overall situations of these two presidents being different, it's really not all that ironic.

Why not put Kerry in office? Bush has already proven to be incompetent, and Kerry is not unqualified. Two candidates, one who is so entrenched in controversy that he has to ride around in black vans laden with armed soldiers, another who is, well, not. Given Bush's track record, there are a lot of people I'd rather put into office. Kerry will do (actually, that'd make a great slogan for his campaign).

God man. Clinton is gone, let it go!

Clinton used the University excuse like many many other guys did.

Viet Nam was not a just war. Especially when you consider that most of the soldiers were of the lower classes.

But lets compare.

Clinton does the school dodge. You can argue it.

The Shrub signs up, takes an OATH and goes AWOL for a year.

I haven't seen "reasonable" proof of his service.

The fact that daddy got him his spot also suggests that daddy could get a "clean" record for him.

A buddy flew in the guard and he said that if he had the scores they say he had, there is no way in hell he would have made it.

As for the quib on Kerry; the fact remains he was still in combat while the Shrub was defending us fromt he Viet Cong in the US. Well.......when it wasn't AWOL.
