when I was walking down the hallway with my friend I repeated what she said without even realizing it. I've also been forgetting stuff A LOT, like my short-term memory is shot. now maybe its all that pot, but could it possibly be a symptom of depression ... which I suspect that I have already??

I don't think memory loss counts as "depression." Depression, whatever its causes, is an emotion, and (IMO, anyway) characterized by nothing more than feeling depressed (sad, lonely, isolated, hopeless, desperate, whatever). Memory loss and conversation echoing seem to be signs of either fatigue, absentmindedness, or boredom. You could, of course, be depressed on top of that, but that's something else entirely.

awesome website!! yeah that definitely is a cheer up. nah nothing is really that bad ... I'm just lonely and some days I have what I believe to be chemical imbalances ... or maybe it IS just boredom. yeah I gotta find something to do ... somehow. with all of the limited freedom I have.

If you believe you're depressed, then you probably are. Smoking pot will in fact affect your short term memory as well. Do you just believe you're depressed based on the memory issue? If so, I would say it probably has more to do with the pot. However, if you feel depressed, sad, having trouble sleeping or sleeping to much, a feeling of hopelessness etc.. then you might want to see your doctor or talk to some one in real life about it. You can do a search on Google for "Symptoms Depression" and see if you might be depressed. My feeling though is if you think you're.. then you just might be!

*Cheer up*

Peace,
Stephanie.

If you suspect that you have a depression, you are probably depressed. And having a lousy short-term memory does not mean you are depressed. look at me, my short-term memory fails me all the time, a lot of times i can't even remember what i had for dinner or that someone told me to do something 5 mins ago. on rare occasions i even forget that i had dinner!

thanks. oh and because I forgot I was signed on as this nation - anti - capitalism = the sex pistols 1977.

yeah, I know I'm depressed, not just based on the short term memory loss. I used to see someone for help, and she said that depression can cause you to forget things - like have short-term memory. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this. and I don't even think it could be the pot because I'm forgetting other things like how to spell. sigh. and what about the repetition thing?? I just did it again, and my friend had to tell me I did it .... is that a symptom of something?? if not depression?

lol. yeah I forgot I had dinner last night. I was buying lunch and I'm like oh sh*t I haven't eaten since yesterday at lunch! and then I'm like oh wait nope I ate dinner last night.

Heh. I had a suspicion it was you, S.P.1977

-Memory loss can be annoying. You must ask yourself if you have always had a bad memory, or if it started more recently. The pot you mentioned could be an important factor.

-Don't put too much strain on your brain. It's not good to watch TV, read magazines and still study for an important test. Set priorities.

I can't even remember whether I flushed the toilet or not. In primary school I was called the absent-minded professor. Says enough. :p

Speaking as someone who is very familiar with both depression , and weed.....I can say with some degree of accuracy....

No.

Memory loss has nothing to do with clinical depression.
Its most likely from the pot.

However..if you are having any other symptoms of it....

Loss of interest in things you enjoy..
Feelings of hopelessness....
thoughts of suicide....

You need to talk to a professional.

Weed can induce a state of lethargy when you smoke too much of the stuff.....
Trust me....

You may want to lay off the sticky green a bit....if you dont feel any better....and are feeling seriously down.....then go talk to someone.

Psychologists often repeat back what other people say to them.
Patient: "Doc, I've been seeing pink elepohants all over the place."
Psychologist: "Zo, you haff bin zeeink pink elephants hey?"

They are also the leading profession for suicides, so you may be right about that depression.

thanks everyone for your support and answers. I will lay off the green stuff, although I fear it has permantely screwed me up. for the past two days I've been feeling "high" but I'm not. It kind of sucks. and then when the depression sets in, the mix really sucks. but right now I'm alright - no depression - just real light headed. lol. not that you all need like the minute by minute update on how I'm doing. but it is nice to see that everyone cares for each other on nationstates.

I've also been noticing a lot of other posts on depression. I'm glad to see that ppl are able to air out their issues here and get positive feedback from others. we could all be saving lives!
