Actually, competative dog-human dancing was invented in Canada, so blame them.

I don't get all the negative responses. I first saw this video via e-mail and just thought it was cool, what with the amount of training involved and it looks like the dog doesn't have any probs with it. In fact, it looks like the dog is having fun!

I have since checked further and found links to "Freestyle" or "Heelwork to Music" in several countries, including Australia, Netherlands, England, U.S.A. and Canada.

Apparently it is fairly new, but growing in popularity.

So there!

Yeah, blame Canada. And possibly the French, root of Canada.

I saw this as "French, the root of all Canada".

I don't know which is more sad: the fact that this woman put so much time and effort into this, that people come and watch and CHEER, or that the doggie never got the damn treat!

Is it the policy of moderators at this site to engage in general insultive behavior of members they know nothing about?

As a game member for several weeks, I'm fairly shocked at the reactive actions of the moderator staff.

As someone who has visited dozens, if not hundreds, of forums over the last decade I've never seen a crew like this.

A forum moderator should always attempt to avoid engaging in negative or insultive behavior and should discourage the regular members to do the same.

I'd like to quote the Terms and conditions of this site:

"BY USING THIS SITE, YOU SIGNIFY YOUR ACCEPTANCE TO THESE TERMS OF USE. If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, do not use this site.

You may submit content to NationStates.net so long as it is not obscene, illegal, threatening, malicious, or defamatory, does not invade the privacy or infringe the intellectual property of a third party, and does not constitute spam."

The above quote qualifies as defamatory.

What's worse is the moderator in question defamed a 3rd party who they know nothing about in order to have malicious fun at the expense of a member.

I fully believe the attacked member is due the sincere apology of the staff member in order to cleanse the integrity of the management here.

I will be copying and forwarding this statement in a formal protest to this site management and site owner.

Mods get away with whatever they want on NS. They only have to be impartial when they are actually being a mod. The rest of the time they are supposedly playing the game like the rest of us and can insult whoever they wish. The major problem is that "mod" always appears under their name. Game would be much better if they used another name when they were not engaged in being a mod. :?

Oh for gosh sakes...lol this was a joke thread. Have you read the other responses? MD is always kidding me about Canada (he does it often).. if you look back to who started the Canada comments it was MD, I in return joked back to him.. people need to get a grip. There is a difference between insulting some one directly and joking with them. This whole thread is a joke thread. Relax..lol Report me if you want. I don't care it was a joke , nothing is going to happen. I doubt a joke thread is going to get much response from the Admin, but by all means.. go ahead. LOL

So you admit that complaining about moderator behavior is pointless because of moderator group protection?

What I saw was a low joke about Canada followed by a pointed personal insult at a member.

You didn't attack his country in response.

Instead you attacked a family member of his.

Then you ignored his request for an apology.

It was only after my post and another that you finally felt willing to respond to the issue.

And your response was clear.

That as a moderator you are immune from censure for bad behavior.

That's quite the elitist attitude and a clear indication to the regular membership that moderators will engage in CYA in order to maintain a grip of power instead of practicing moderator integrity and responsibility.

I have no intention of letting this issue drop until one of two things happens. Either I get an official inquiry into the whole problem or you make a simple apology to his grandfather here.

Be adult enough to realize that you might have accidently stepped over the line with the personal attack or hold on your feigned innocence while I proceed with raising this issue to the next level. I have already sent a copy of this to the formal complaint link. As a forum owner myself on another site, my staff has already had discussions with Mr. Barry himself on another matter and I'm quite willing to use his personal email addy to complain about the current situation.

Either Joe has lodged a stick in some painful orifice and will not last long on the General forum, or he's a puppet.

I'm betting on the latter. No real person could be so fastidious.

Next question is: whose?

Not mine, don't have any. Disagree with Stephistan on most issues but think she is pretty fair. Still think the game could be improved if "Game Moderator" wasn't used for personal opinions -- but that is just my opinion.

Neither of the above.

As a forum administrator myself, I'm responsible for the behavior of my moderators.

Trust me, it gives a different view on acceptable behavior of both members and staff.

My site also includes friendly ribbing between members.

But when a member asks for redress, it is incumbent on the staff to seriously consider it or accept that members will see that the staff is unresponsive.

If you have ever run a forum of your own then you would know what I mean.

Admins and moderators actually have less liberty than regular members. That is true for any position of responsibilty. Don't we hold police to a higher standard of ethics when we hand them a gun? With power comes duty and responsibility.

As for "lasting long" in the General board, have no worries. I only read the General board while waiting for results in the game boards. I have zero intention of chatting. I have my own forum for that. I simply responded to this event because it seemed to be a growing pattern here and I felt compelled to voice my opinion.

As for being fastidious, when you reach my age and education level, you will find that most middle aged members act the same way online. I wasn't raised with online chatting. It was due to my business concerns that I discovered the entertainment aspects of the internet. My writing style comes from decades writing business proposals and technical writing. My writing style is mandatory for my business. I have no intention of learning a new style simply to talk online. As for being an old and tightly wound type of person, it's a simple fact that I am one. No amount of wishing or style changing will make me younger. I'm an educated older man and I'm used to it. That younger people snigger at that is simply a fact of life. I used to do the same to older people when I was young. What comes around, goes around I guess. But don't ask me to quit being an adult. I'll be one until my death. And I'm not fond of the alternative.

Neither of the above.

As a forum administrator myself, I'm responsible for the behavior of my moderators.

Here is a thought.. This is not your forum.. you have NO say here. Now I have talked with the Admin about this as well as a Sr. Game Mod. You are being argumentative and are doing nothing here but trying to cause trouble. This is to stop now or take it to mod.

Stop this, you have hijacked this thread enough.

Considered yourself warned.
