Porn videos arouse women more than men
ANI
London, December 19

A research by scientists from Stanford University School of Medicine in California claims that the fair sex is also turned on by pornography.

The results of the research were published in the prestigious American journal 'Fertility and Sterility'.

Researchers showed random clips from erotic films and relaxation videos to 20 women to monitor their effects. They found that the women were fully aroused in an average of just two minutes after watching explicit eroticism.

Volunteers aged 20 to 30 were linked to devices to monitor breathing, heart rate, skin changes and blood flow to their genitals. The tape sequences lasted 22 minutes and were played with and without sound.

But the moans and groans made no difference to their response. The porn clips involved two different couples having foreplay and proper sex.

According to a report in The Sun, scientists have said that they were investigating why some women have sexual problems and believe their findings will help sufferers with their difficulties.

Moreover, the findings have challenged the age-old held view that only men enjoy watching pornography.

Alan Riley, professor of sexual medicine at the University of Central Lancashire, said that research over the past 20 years has revealed that more women were responding to explicit erotic videos rather than soft romantic films.

Riley added, "Women certainly respond to erotic videos. It's not unusual for therapists to recommend stimulation, which may involve watching a sexually explicit video. But they have to make sure that it does not have the reverse effect, and that the women are ready for it, and that it's not going to terrify them."

i suppose that might be possible. i wouldn't know; i'm a girl, and i never get sick of porn. i mean, i can get sick of a certain item of pornography, if i have seen it several times, but porn in general never gets old to me.

i don't mean this to be a disgusting or overly raunchy topic, i just think it was a very interesting study, and the result was not what i would have expected.

"Hey, baby, wanna come back to mine and watch a dirty movie?"

Thats the kind of line that only would work in porn.

"How about something a little different from Blockbuster tonight, hon?"

Actually I find overly explicit stuff boring. Hints and teases though are great.

well, it certainly depends on the relationship in question, and the sort of girl you're talking to. i have always been perfectly comfortable with explicit material, and i don't mind talking with casual friends about it, but there are many women who would be very uncomfortable with such situations.

Women are so sexually frustrated, because their partners don't take time to attend to their needs. This doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

Simple: Women suffer sexually, so, they turn to other ways of relieving the sexual tension of not having a partner that necessarily satisfies them. Porn, is one way, to overcome this tension. It's a means for arousal and satisfaction away from a partner to stimulate oneself.

And whose fault is that?? Maybe "back in the day" women weren't comfortable taking charge of their wants and needs, but these days it's our own fault if we don't communicate to our partners what we want/need.

Woah, I'd have truely gone with option 1, I thought they were highly offended.

This woman is.

Apart from the fact that it quite simply grosses me out, I couldn't enjoy something where the chances are high that some of the participants in the films are under duress rather than choosing to appear in them.

Obviously I'm aware some people are exhibitionist, and they're choosing for themselves - but there are a huge number of girls sold into what's essentially slavery, or coerced (remember Linda whatever her name is, of "Deep Throat" fame?) by men, or just simply poverty stricken and skill-less so it's the only way they can feed their kids.

Someone I know showed me a site with girls and "f***ing machines" - it literally was days before I stopped retching at the very unwanted memory. Yuch!!!!!!!!!! :(

I wouldn't try to persuade anyone not to watch it though - my husband does for starters, so I'd be divorced if I tried ;-)

Lovelace.

There recently was a job opening for fucking machines.com for editor and videographer. Over $40k a year. A fellow pending film grad friend of mine and I thought about it for a second and decided we just couldn't....

I'm sure when I'm starving in three months I'll regret that....

This study is no suprise to people who have worked where they sell porn, but it's nice to have something verify it. Aside from "Skirt Man" (The guy who, every saturday, would come in wearing a small skirt and undershirt and look at disturbing porn like Barely Legal and Finally Legal...somethin' kinda uuugh...)* women where clearly getting a lot more out of it then men. Maybe this speaks to why two chicks are so hot...

I only tried once to watch porn with a girlfriend, but I was such a wuss and film nerd (this was a while ago) that we rented Caligula cause I couldn't bring myself to rent regular porn. It just made her cry. (such a jackass).

There are some companies that you can go to that center on the women sort of, like vivid, though the women still make their money through personal appearances, but at least they're no 'bang bus'....

*I shared this story once before and some one asked me what was wrong with Barely Legal. First, keep in mind I worked where we sold porn and eventually you read every mag that comes through (I have an opinion about Pen World and Shuz, too. sadly. I could go on for days about magazines about baseball cards...but I digress) The 'barely legal' magazines depict the women in it as less than legal and cater to the old man/young girl fantasy with things like 'Daddies friend gives me a big gift' and 'should sex make my butt hurt' with the girls dressed like little girls. It's just not right, even if you like porn. So to answer whoever it is who asked, that's why I have a problem with Barely Legal and Finally Legal

no offense, but you are totally living under a rock if you believe that. many women are abused in the porn industry, many women raped or battered in the effort to produce porn, and many women are financially exploited to boot. the "mainstream" pornos (like penthouse, playboy, etc) don't do that stuff because they simply don't need to in order to turn a profit, but smaller outfits most certainly do.
22-03-2004, 17:24
I’m not surprised. Me and a group of people have talked about it a while ago, in fact it was actually a part of the same discussion where one of my friends though that masturbation was homosexual. It’s more like an addiction for guys. If they don’t have a girl or their girl doesn’t put out they need to look elsewhere. If they don’t get their fix and have a release it could bother them for quite a while. So ladies if you have a guy and you discover that he has pornos, don’t bitch at him. At least he’s using a video or a magazine to get his fix and not looking for other women.

And guys, don’t leave it in the VCR. Women hardly ever find porn in their hiding places. They find them because somebody forgot to put it back into the secret hiding place.

But a good relationship is one where both partners can view the porn together.

I'll bet it would be interesting to find out if men and women enjoyed seeing different things in porn. Like would women prefer more "atmosphere" and emotion but would men prefer more kink?

Also, would we expect that women use porn specifically to aid masturbation like men generally do, or just for entertainment?

i'll try to find the link for you, but a study showed that women are less aroused by violent or abusive porn (as you would expect, since the woman is almost always the victim of the abuse and therefore few women would enjoy that), and women are less aroused on average by female-female scenes than men are. interestingly, women are also less aroused by male-male porn than men are, regardless of what sexual orientation either gender professes. that means that straight men are more turned on by male gay porn than women are...interesting.

to an extent i would agree. but i would break up with a guy who owned piles and piles of porno, or who was spending tons of money on sex lines or videos...i think that's an obsession, and that would be a problem for me. also, i wouldn't be okay with my guy owning certain kinds of porn, like rape-intensive or really brutal porn, because i am not interested in dating someone who gets off on watching people in pain. animal porn or other such fringe stuff would just make me not want to have sex with him, and i would totally understand and support any girl who made that same choice.

women are just like men in this respect: they all like different things. i know some women who only like "tasteful" porn, soft-core romance stuff, but i also know some who are into more *ahem* exotic material. you can't find one kind of porn that all men everywhere will like, and you can't find one kind of porn that will work with all women.

a general hint is that women like to see material in which the female is having a good time, and in which the woman receives attention from the man (if you know what i am getting at). most women prefer not to see women being humiliated or abused, though there are some women who enjoy that just as there are some men who are really into being dominated and so forth. if you're thinking of introducing explicit material into a relationship then i would suggest you start slow; try things like "moderate" porn, where they don't actually shoot close-ups of genitalia or such stuff. err on the side of caution, because it's better to have your girl asking you to pick something more spicy than it is to have her slapping you across the face for putting in the Donkey Vomit Babes video.

female arousal is usually measured by conductance, using the lubrication level in the vagina as well as taking readings of the blood flow to the genitals. male arousal is measured by penile stress gauges, which are basically stretch bands placed around the penis to measure how erect it is.

it is my understanding that they did not actually watch the participants while they were watching the porn, though they did take measurements using instruments and later asked the participants to rate their arousal to the material. as in all scientific studies we must admit that the outcome might have been changed by our means of measurement, so your suggestion would be an interesting one for a future study.

I find that most porn is a mixture of the erotic and the gross - all on the same video unfortunately. (eg a good sex scene ruined by the guy always using his own hand to splooge onto the woman's face - how boring...)

Therefore I was thinking of making a compilation vid with scenes I think my wife might enjoy and all the ugly stuff edited out. Think that might go over well?

that would probably be a really good idea. i tend to run into the same problem, with material that i like being interupted by stuff that just completely kills my arousal. editting for content on your own could help ensure that there are no unpleasent surprises in store...i had a friend run into some trouble because he showed a video to his girlfriend that he hadn't actually watched all the way through. it turned into hardcore S&M about half way in, and scared the crap out of the poor girl.

First off, I would like to say that it is refreshing to get a pretty even mix of opinions on this issue between men and women on the thread - too often, in other website fora I have been in, the guys take this type of topic completely over and exchange 'best sex ever' stories - umm not that I am on too many dodgy sites or anything, but hell, look at us, Nation Building and still it comes in :)

As a guy here, yes, I do masturbate, yes, I do look at porn (try to repress or suppress myself though, as the moral Nainamo/Paul personality beats porn Paul over the head), and yes, I even went through a really bad cyberslut stage after a real life break up a few years ago.

I don't mind porn in small doses, but would never try to impose that sort of viewing on a relationship - to each their own though is my policy, and it is great (in a post feminist kinda way) that some girls do get off on porn. LOL I find it is very much like the C word though, some women like it, some women don't have a problem with it, half of women are so offended by it that their ears explode if the topic is even mentioned.

I read earlier in the thread that one guy doesn't watch porn at all - all I would say is that that guy must be lying or Jesus - LOL ALL guys at one point or another have watched it, unless of couse, they don't have access to magazines, books, TV or film.
