Okay, I realize I've reached a new low in self-promotion here (probbably from the whisky and the late hour where I am), but I started a blog a few days ago and I'm desperate to get some feedback. It deals with politics and poetry mostly. Here it is. (http://incertus.blogspot.com) There are places for comments on the individual posts, but I'd be happy to hear from people here as well. Thanks.
Thanks to Caligatio, we have a list of the bloggers who have posted their sites on this thread. Make a request and I'll add you to the list. Check these folks out and leave a comment for them, if you would.

I think I'm going to change the title of this thread to "NationStates Bloggers" or something. Turn this into a resource thread of sorts.
And thanks for the comments, Bottle. I've linked you, and I'll get Vonners on my list as well.
And to anyone else who visits the blogs, I think I speak for everyone when I ask that you put some comments there when you visit, if only to reassure us that we're not just shouting into the air.

I'd also like to suggest to all the bloggers--and this invitation is to any and all nationstaters who have a blog regardless of content, political affiliation, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or blog topic--post to this thread when you update your blog. That way it can stay near the front page regularly and won't take up space like a sticky would.

Thanks to everyone who has joined this mini-community. Like I said earlier, this is a completely open blogosphere--everyone is welcome regardless of political persuasion or taste in music, film, etc. All I ask is that if you update, you note it on this thread so as to keep it close to the front of the forum, and if you visit any of the other blogs listed here, leave the blogger a note in their comments section, assuming they have one, to let them know that you dropped by.
And all that said, I have updated as well. (http://incertus.blogspot.com) It's a cheesy one for now, but I'll do something more substantive later.
Incertonia
10-02-2004, 06:54
Here's the more substantive blog entry (http://incertus.blogspot.com) for the day.
Most of you don't know me, which may or may not be a good thing, but anyway, here's my newly created blog.
I'm completely new to this, although somehow I was able to add comments to my page with ease. Thank you CommentThis!
Anyway, before I post the link, I have a quick question.
When I access my blog when I'm not logged in, I see the most recent entry. However, there's no way for me or for that matter, any other viewer, to see my previous entires. I've clicked on archives, but that just refreshes the same page, showing me the same recent entry. What do I need to do to make previous entries available?
Here's the link:
Caligatio's Blog (http://caligatio.blogspot.com)
I'm sure at least one of you will find some kind of interest in it...hopefully...maybe....

You might want to check your settings--it's possible that you've got the blog set up to only show the most recent post.
I've got the opposite problem--I haven't been doing it long enough for my stuff to be moved from the front page yet--everything I've ever blogged is still there.
Interesting post, by the way. Just for future reference, it's "Bierce" and he was a damn fine writer, I agree.

Apparently, my blog got hungry and ate my first post. And it was quite good...
It detailed my recent revelation that most people are stupid, my disgust for the "new" George W. Bush, and why I will not be voting for him in November, despite the fact that I'm a conservative libertarian.
Ugh. Stupid blogs.

i use blogspot.com, but livejournal is very good too...it all depends on what sort of features you like. you can start journals through multiple sites and then decide which system you like the best. i'm a bare-bones kind of person when it comes to journaling, but other people like having the flexibility of lots of features and templates. it's all about your style, baby!

I think what I like most about LJ isn't so much the features but that it very definitely makes for a sense of community - it feels a lot less like solitary writing than some of the journalling sites I've seen. I've made some of my best and most valued friends since I started LJing at the end of 2001.
In fact, it's Jed's ( http://www.livejournal.com/users/jdev/ ) fault that I found out about NS when he mentioned it a while back...
*goes to use the LJ Search toy* Ooh. Looks like there are quite a few NSers who've made LJs for their Nations. What a good idea! must go and read...

You might be right about that. If the Court ruled against "under God," it would instantly become the most unpopular institution in the nation. Nobody in Congress will stand up for the Court, and many politicians will try to whip up popular anger over the issue. The Court has an easy out, and it would be wise to use it.
On the other hand, the Court did agree to take the case. I assume that it knew about the standing issue beforehand, and it granted cert anyway. Do you think it would have done this if it were just going to decide the case on a semi-technical ground? I'm not sure. (This probably isn't the thread for a full-blown discussion of it anyway.)

I think the Court took the case precisely because it knew it wouldn't have to rule on the validity of the words "under God." It gives the conservatives a chance to pontificate in a non-binding concurrent opinion and gives the liberals a fig leaf. The Supreme Court has a unwarranted reputation for wanting to decide important issues. Truth is they try to dodge them whenever possible. I guarantee you they're hoping a DOMA challenge doesn't pop up anytime soon, because that's a decision they can't run away from.

Hmm....good point. I guess that the Court had two options to avoid making a decision on the main issue. The first was to grant certiorari, and then decide on a technical ground. The other was just to leave the Ninth Circuit decision as is. The first option forces those who oppose "under God" to start from scratch, working their way up from the district court again. But the issue would have made it back to the Supreme Court eventually, without the convenient "standing" issue. The second option would probably leave the nation split on this issue. The Ninth Circuit would have its rule about "under God," and the rest of the country would have another rule (until lawsuits started popping up in other circuits). Given the choice, I suppose that the Court would prefer delay, instead of leaving the circuits divided and a major constitutional issue unresolved with no explanation.

In today's installment (http://incertus.blogspot.com) we discover that when Democrats quote the Bible, it's bad, bad, bad. At least, if you're a Republican operative for a President who likes to do it himself. And if you're doing it in context and legitimately. And if I keep this up, you'll have no reason to go look at my blog.

Resurrecting this thread one last time unless some of the other bloggers start posting here again as well.
Today's update (http://incertus.blogspot.com) has a little to do with Catholics and marijuana, with Fred Phelps and Moqtada Al Sadr, and if you scroll down a bit, you can read about baseball, spin, and find out which NY Times Op-Ed writer I am (and you can take the test yourself, too!).
