I'm rather fond of Rurouni Kenshin for swordfighting goodness, myself. ^_^
Best move is not being there.
Striking back helps to.

TV: kenshin
DVD/VHS: Princess Mononoke
Manga: dot.hack
Game: a toughie - for sword fighting i would go for bushido blade actually.

*Currently taking a break from watching Kenshin*
I'm on EP. 23 and it's one of the best Animes I've seen so far.

Most of the time, the forum admin doesn't need to actually post anything- just ban or delete people from behind the scenes =p

Sequels and series aside, I have great respect for Highlander for this reason:
It is obviously some guy goin' "How are we going to justify having a sword fight in the parking garage of Madison Square Garden?" and built a movie around it, and that kicks ass.
But Princess Bride's sword fight is pretty cool, as are the ones in Crouching Tiger... especially the one where the chick had to keep grabing new weapons...

Best sword-fighting movie? I'm particullarly fond of the dueling in The Princess Bride and The Phantom Menace. However, they are both nothing when compared to the true awesomness of Yoda vs. Tyrannus in AOTC...
Pardon my geekiness...

Ninja scroll was not good IMO. It's not my genre of anime. A guy changing into a crow? F*ck that. I want my main characters to mutate into a fetal blob that eats Tokyo, then takes it into a cosmic rebirth.
...
Anyway Highlander is pretty good.

i myself think crouching tiger hidden dragon has the best fight because of the dojo bit with the super heavy brass sword and where the proffessional fighters have ths shit£ beaten out of them all at the same time,
but the princess bride is hilarious, "i'm not left handed either" (yes i know i probably mis-quoted) and the commical bit with the sicilian. truly a hilarious fililm (purposefull spelling)

Greatest swordfight ever? Samurai Jack (I kid you not. I've seen baby cart and Ninja scroll and all that, but there is this truly awesome one in Samurai Jack. I watched it, and I thought it was an average cartoon, then, from nowhere, this truly great swordfight happended. It was drawn so perfectly, very fluid, with the martial arts moves and all that.)
Of course, its also got the anthill mob describing a gift-wrapped bomb
"Its the gift that keeps on giving, see? Nyah!"
Of course, the best live action was in Monty Python and the holy grail
"Thwunk!"
"Tis only a flesh wound!"
"No its not! Your arms off!"
"No it isn't!"
genius.

And the swordfight in the castle on the swamp
"I'm not dead!"
"Well, he's mortally wounded.
"I'm feeling much better, I think I'll go for a walk!"
*crunch
"Oh, no. Just when he looked like he would make it, there were complications"

My vote for best cinematic sword fight is still the final duel between Rob Roy MacGregor (Liam Neeson) and Archibald Cunningham (Tim Roth) in Rob Roy...very well choreographed.

Uh... The Seven Samurai anyone? Or Yojimbo?
I must agree though that Highlander had some very enjoyable blade scenes, although very stylised - but that's what made it enjoyable in its own way.

Those fights must have a lot of skill, given the repution of them.
I still stand beside Jack. I was told there was a sworfight in a 1939 film that lasted 15 minutes, if anybody can tell me what movie that'd be nice
