Primaries soon and I don't even know who the hell is running

First time voter, I'm turing 18 in April and can vote in the June primaries.

Problem: I have no idea who is running for what, what their stances are on "the issues", or what meaningless crimes they have commited in the past which have no connection with their current candidacy yet are still brought out at every opportunity.

Any help?

(P.S. I'm in the U.S.A. if you couldn't figure it out)

Bush of course will be the republican canidate.
Kerry won the Iowa and NS primaries. He is your average demacrate.
Howard Dean is doing his I have a scream speech and is second behind Kerry and a liberal. :)

(Oh, I do know Bush is running and what his stances are. It's mainly the Democratic side that I'm foggy on. Odd, since I myself am a Democrat)

To be quite honest, if your primaries aren't until June, then you probably won't have much to vote for. The Democratic nominee should be pretty evident by then, since most of the delegates will already be selected and most of the candidates will have dropped out.

If you really want to know about the candidates, however, I'd recommend watching a lot of C-SPAN. You can hear the candidates speak for yourself and make your own determinations from there. Don't go to the mainstream media for information--they're corporate and have their own agenda. Go to the source and make up your own mind.

And on C-span, you'll be sure to see all of their speeches at least 3 times within a week...always a plus! :)

i've got a couple things you could do. first you could take the political compass test (http://www.politicalcompass.org/). then you could compare your placement on the graph with their placement of the various candidates.

secondly, you could go take the selectsmart presidential selector test (http://selectsmart.com/president/). it will show you how close of a match you are with just about everybody.

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing

Don't let that stop you from doing the research, though. It's worth it to know what the various candidates stand for--or at least claim to stand for.

Congratulations. Remember vote early, and vote often! ;)

The DNC*s page on the candidates. (Someone should let them know navy on a black background is unreadable.) - http://www.democrats.org/whitehouse/candidates.html
Also, select smart has a good little quiz: http://selectsmart.com/PRESIDENT/

Check out Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich's website at http://www.kucinich.us

He's been pretty much blacked-out by the media right from the start and is running a very "low budget" campaign so its been a bit hard for him to get his message out. So to get 1-2% with no national media coverage is not bad at all!

He's taken some very tough stands in opposition to the war in Iraq (much tougher than Dean), opposition to NAFTA & the WTO, and supporting a Canadian-style single payer universal healthcare plan.

If that appeals to you check him out.

I can't think of any state that has their primary as late as June. What state are you in?

It will be down to 2 or 3 candidates with a chance after Feb. 3.

Don't put too much faith in the selectsmart selector. They don't always accurately reflect what the candidates records are on the issues, and there's a lot more to consider about a candidate than what goes into one of their tests.
For example, the chart you posted correctly puts Howard Dean on the right-wing end of the Democratic field because it puts more weight on his record as Governor, while selectsmart rates Dean as much more liberal because of the popular misconception that he's left-wing.
