2 baseless one-liners in a row! Thats pretty good New Astrolia!
I think that herding protestors out of sight of the event they are protesting kinda defeats the purpose of freespeech dont you?

Democrats do that to, all parties do.
Bush has taken away no civil rights for law abiding citizens. all of the hysteria about the Patriot Act is just that, hysteria. The ACLU has not one complaint on file from an American citizen about violations of their rights that have occurred because of that Act.
Having the convention in NYC is a masterful political move.

SSSSSHHHHHH! The ACLU doesn't want them to know that!
Potato, Potato
Masterful, Manipulative.
The secret service agents disallow any protestors to be near and usually in view of the people they are protesting. As I said. It kind of defeats the purpose of freespeeh and assembly if you cant annoy the person you want to protest against.

You don't think holding the convention in NYC on Sept. 11 is a blatant way of exploiting a national tragedy for political gain? It's not like Bush actually accomplished anything by not preventing the attacks. Why should he be proud. I guess the big message for the GOP this year will be: Be afraid and vote Republican or else the terrorists will get you again! That's what the state of the Union was about.
I'll be protesting the GOP convention.

And I suppose someone else may have prevented those attacks. Not with the moribund head in the sand foreign policy of the previous eight years. Bush has done the best possible in a terrible situation.

Yes it could have been prevented. Some people have been proposing airline safety regulations for years that would have prevented the terrorists from doing what they did. But George Bush opposed those regulations because the airlines didn't want to spend the extra money and Bush does whatever big corporate contributors tell him to do. Some Democrats had the same attitude, so basically Ralph Nader could have prevented 911 if he had been elected because he would have put the terrorism prevention measures we have now into place BEFORE 911. This is what "getting big government of our backs" really does for America: it allowed a national tragedy.

Ralph Nader?????????? and what other issue has he ever been even close to right about. Come on that guy is a fricking moron that couldn't draw a majority of the votes anywhere outside of SF, Marin County, and Cambridge, MASS. the least government is still the best government and Nader is nothing but a fascist parading as a civil libertarian.
Oh I get it! " some People" have been suggesting certain "improvements" to air liners for "years" and since George Bush was in the White House for less than a year and didn't immediately install these "improvements" he is guilty and is responsible for the 9,11 attacks.
You Demovcrats are all the same. Good for a laugh but not much else. Pull your head out man before you actually believe your own propaganda.

Insulting Nader doesn't have anything to do with the fact that 911 could have prevented except for the conservative anti-regulation philosophy and the power large corporations have in government. The anti-government slogans sound nice but they have real life consequences that cost human lives.

Can we protest FNC while we're there?
I can't make it back to the city by then, but I will be proudly sporting my "Dear Mr. President, If terrorists ever bomb Crawford, Texas I promise not to go their and throw a party" t-shirt.

I would protest, but I live in Arizoan - too far away. Also, GWB is taking advantage of Sept. 11th. All of his speeches have mentioned it and its always used for his national defence bills. Find something new - we don't want the same justification over and over again. i used to live inNew Jersey - I watched it happen, and I still don't think we should be using it as a way to pass laws into effect that limit citizens. Even though there have been no vilations in use of the Patriot act, it does limit people on what they can do as well as their free speech, among other things. I'm done for the night now.

the families of 9/11 victims wont let Bush continue to talkin his smack--9/11 was Bushs pearl harbor
maybe it's not as you say though Astrolia. maybe this protest will be different. as i heard, down in miami, the protests against FTAA took place directly at the spot where they wanted to protest. so maybe the same will be true in ny. i mean everyone has 9 months to figure out how to organize the whole thing.
Lol, yeah. and we all know how that turned out.

The police brutality did get way out of hand in Miami. They will probably do the same thing at the Republican and Democratic conventions, if they allow a protest at all. Of course, there will be a protest regardless, but if they try to stop protests things will get much more ugly.
Typically, you're safe if you stay away from the police in riot gear and don't get in the middle of things. Just in case, I'm wearing a cup when I go and I'm bringing my helmet. :)

Only if you plan to run up to the tear gas cannisters and throw them back at the police (which I wouldn't suggest) or you have severe asthma and plan on getting near the police line. If you plan on doing something REALLY stuipid that requires a gas mask, try to find other people you can work with.
In Miami there was a group who were going to wear protective gear and gas masks to break the police line and try to get near the meeting. I don't know what happened to them, but I imagine they all got beat pretty hard and sent to jail.
HHAAHAHA.
Anway if you wear a gasmask or a cup It will be interpreted as an intent to threaten and the police will immeadiately break up the protest and beat you senseless.

They'll do that anyway. It's only threatening if a large number of people wear them, and I don't think they'll notice easily if I'm only wearing a cup.
I've always thought it was senseless that the police start their riots by declaring something an "illegal assembley." As though just being somewhere on public property is a crime. It's especially sad when it's a political protest which I would think falls under the whole "freedom to assemble" and "freedom to petition the government" arena, but those things don't matter in a police state.

whoa. so astrolia, you were there in miami? I didn't realize the extent of police brutality I guess. damn. well, I wouldn't mind getting a little roughed up for what I believe in, I just hope the protesters are able to get their message across in nyc. the gov't is getting out of hand ... has been for a long time now. something needs to be done.
What civil liberties did he take of yours?
Dont vote bush since he tok away your civil liberties?
No I wasnt there.
Im not really the demonstrating type. So many people want to protest these days it takes too long :D
Although Im surpirsed the meeting didnt get more play in general.

yeah ... hmmm. it should of. oh and I researched this just now but, (this is from a website where you could download a form to vote):
you must be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file this form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote); so I guess I can't vote. damn!

As I've pretty much said. The right to free speech and assembly.

yeah where are our first amendment rights???
yeah where are our first amendment rights???
They can be found at least 1/3 of a mile away from Bush where you will never be seen and where the media can ignore you.
How many people get arrested at those things thesedays
How many people get arrested at those things thesedays
It depends on the event. Bush is protested everywhere he goes and the rare occasions that people get arrested are usually those trying to be arrested. In Knoxville TN for example a few people got arrested for going outside the free speech zone because they wanted to engage in civil disobedience to make a point about free speech.
Mass arrests and violence only happen at the really big events when the police get an attitude. It will be interesting to see how they handle the GOP and Dem conventions this year. There were problems at both last time, but you would think Bush would prefer there be no stories about police brutality during his show.
