All I know for sure right now is that my dream home would take the use of a wormhole generator to get there, because the home itself would be a separate universe with the radius of one kilometer. :D

Something not too big, not too small.

The house could be below a million as long as I was able to build it to my exact plans. But I want at least 200 acres of land preferably woods and pasture with a big pond. The pasture would be for horses and the woods just to be surrounded by them, so that would probably cost more than a million. I would probably have to settle for a small cottage and then the rest.

A Biosphere containing a pristine forest, complete with a fully functional eco-system and weather replication. Of course there'd be a more traditional adjunct with bathroom, kitchen, etc.

The price of creating and maintaining a forest, the construction of the buildings and extensive automatic systems, and the license I'd probably need to maintain an ecosystem would probably bring the entire thing well over 40 million dollars.

Is this a trick question ?

Erm my dream house is a shabby brown caravan with no lights

A pleasure dome where I can live a decadent, pampered life til the end. With a fully stocked harem.

The outer appearance doesnt matter much, doesnt have to be too showy, but the living quarters are exceedingly luxurious and wasteful.

We just got a great house. It's rustic, exposed beams, huge fieldstone fireplace, 4 bedrooms, office, 2 baths, looks out over pine woods.

It's a block from the lakeshore. In dreams I'd move it there, and it would quintuple in value.
12-11-2003, 01:44
my dream house would be very small and made of a light wood, probably a good amount of bamboo, it would have sliding doors like the ones in japan and inside all that would be is a decent CD player, shelves with books and CDs, a thatched mat to sleep in, a cellar to store food and maybe a pillow and light blanket, oh and i mustn't forget the computer, it would be the best model available to the public, for about two months...my house would definitely cost well under a million.

Why in the hell would someone spend over one million dollars on a house?!

I want a house that is at the most 200,000 dollars, even that is a bit much. (200,000 seems like an awful lot to me though) Keep it simple people!

My house would have many rooms, with lots of furniture and split levels. Instead of a pool, I want a brook that actually flows through my house. Part would be in an indoor like pool (and I do want steps, ladders and such). The other I want under a marble slab in a room, so I can feel the vibration.
Then I want a circular sitting room. It is graced by a circular compluvium (with the modern touch of a retractable glass ceiling), and an impluvium. This would work best in a warm and wet climate. Anyhow, at the bottom of the impluvium is a giant clock. I saw it in a dream once, and liked it.

But I can't make my own satisfaction contingent on whether someone else can live that way. I can't live that way either, yet. But if I can, I will. :D

I wouldn't spend anything at all, if I could get it for free! :)
Up here property prices are high. You would have a hard time finding any property with frontage on Lake George for less than a million.

The price doesn't matter, if you can get what you want. We bought this place fairly cheap and have been fixing it up.

My ideal home would be a cooperative house -- a commune. Within the commune, there would be income redistribution, rotation of communal duties, and observance of an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Vegetarianism would be encouraged; clothing would be optional. As for aesthetics, the house would have to be comfortable for all residents, perhaps have old wood floors and interesting vintage designs. It would, above all, be urban, and within reach of arts and culture.

My dream abode is a little shack in the country - a wild area as well - with my partner and a small community.

Where I live, 200K wouldn't get you 1000 square feet.

Honest? Here goes, you're gonna think I'm crazy. I wanna live in either a shack, or a tee-pee, or a wig-wam. The shack has nice hard wall that keep out the cold. The tee-pee is highly mobile, and stays cozy in the winters on the prairie. The wig-wam is also mobile, it's warm, it has lots of space, just some cool stuff.

Realisticaly? A small apartment.

There is no possible way that 200 acres with a pasture and a big pond would be worth less than a million. Unless you are planning to get this on the outskirts of Delaware which would be stupid.

If he buys back west ere I live, he can get 200 acres for cheap

I want to live in a yurt. It sounds like something out of a Dr. Seuss book but it is real. There is hotel in Baja Mexico that is basically a land plot of yurts and roads on a lake.

I used to want to live in a Mongolian Yurt, but apparently you can freeze to death easily in one.

My dream house would be a cozy little log house or a cob house with a fireplace and a big kitchen. It would be on a jillion rural acres and have flowers in the front, veggies in the back and fruit trees all around.

And in California for a 2 story four bedroom it can get up around $2.5 million.

This can be true with most any place. But, be more specific. California is a rather large state.

My dream house is either going to massive, to say the least. I love room and spaciousness.

Or, there is going to be a large, highly expensive court yard leading to the house, and since I would have spent all my money on that, it would be cardboard box at the end of it.
12-11-2003, 05:42
I have this thing for houseboats, even though they're the trailers of the water in many places. It's a romantic thought, I'd probably hate it in the end.

I don't have a dream house because I can't really imagine staying in one place. I'd like different flavors of different apartments, different spaces and set ups in different places. Small and quaint, spacious and modern, it doesn't matter. Different and new is the key word, folks. As long as all the apartment buildings had trash compactors (I refuse to ever live with my garbage for a whole week ever again) or somewhere to store the trash, and a super that will get on my clogged toilet straight away.

if they are double leather lined they can be quite toasty.
they are so snug they need to be well ventilated in summer.
that sounds nice, but i need room for all my stuff.

My dream house is a large log cabin on a Point high on a hill that overlooks a pure clean quiet lake. surrounded on all other sides by trees.
I would have flowers in the front. an enclosed porch with a deck like area for dining on one side and a hot tub on the other. It would have at least 4 bedrooms and two baths, a mudroom, a large kitchen and laundry room and a good sized basement that I would use as a den/wreck room (tv and all) and a good sized living room with a fire place and a balcony upstairs that overlooks it. If I could I would have a roof deck on the outside of the house that overlooked the heated pool in the backyard. that is my dream house. though I will settle for anything I can call my own.

I can build my dream house here in North Carolina for well under 1 million dollars. For what I want, I could prbably spend no more than 500,000 and get exactly what I want. Maybe 750,000 at the most, which leaves me 250,000 for furniture, landscaping and my fiancee who deserves everything I can give her.

right around 1 million. keep in mind that in the area I live in, a one floor bungalow costs about $500,000. housing prices are expensive here, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than the San Francisco bay area.

I'm way too picky and accentric, if I could it'd basically be a castle 8) high above a lake in a pine forest. It would also have a large indoor pool, jacuzzi, security system, huge entertainment center, and even then I'd like to move around, staying in one place gets kinda boring after awhile no matter where you live, but at least with a huge castle I can have something to show off. I could always just buy an island somewhere and have the castle built there, that way I can avoid taxes 8)
