Gun Ban

Ladies and gentlemen of NationStates, and the United nations:

A while in the past I'd decided on putting a ban on all guns of any kind in a nation. What do we think would be the pro's and con's of a situation of the kind?

Emperor of Rouroni,
UN Delegate of the Western Alliance

Pros: Less people would die.

Cons: Wars would really suck. (I got foursies! Now get the hell out of my borders!)

It depends on the country for some reason. If you've ever seen "Bowling For Columbine" you'll have some idea of the differences just between the states and the rest of the world. There seems to be some sort of strange regional insanity (for want of a better phrase) that makes it difficult to tell the effects in the states at least.

In Scotland we had a handgun ban after the Dunblane atrocity. It caused little ripples among the civil liberties lot, but didn't really seem to have any real effect. An amnesty was declared, and a lot of obsolete weaponry was handed into police stations, but of course criminals were unaffected. The effects were at best neutral. Gun clubs continued their existance.

So rather than pros and cons, I'd say the overall effect almost anywhere exc. America would be neutral. Criminals keeps them, few citizens hand them in. Status quo is resumed.

i support absolutely no weapons ban of any kind.....I am a gun owner, and i will continue to buy more guns as i see fit. Banning guns is a dumb idea, if you dont like them dont buy them but dont take away other's rights because you dont like them....allow people the freedom to choose how they want to live. Besides if the USA ever banned guns i would be out of a job(i currently work in a gun shop)

I believe in dueling as a nice way to solve many problems. It can be guns, knives, swords (my favorite 8)), jousting…and the list goes on. But for the pros and cons just look at SMB’s post above and Russia (RL) as examples.
