Journey of 1 copy of JG

So, the journey of this copy starts (for me) at a Barnes and Noble store in Jack London Square in Oakland, CA. Mikitivity, at the first NS meet I had been to, decided it would be a good idea to have everyone sign a copy of the book and then to send it around to other meetups to be signed and eventually sent off to Max as a sortof memento to NS.

Little did he know how far it would go. Geographically, the book covered many thousands of miles. To Britain and back, around the eastern half of the US and back. And eventually across the Pacific.

After the Oakland meet I made a month long trip to Britain. While there, I stayed with two NSers, Flemingovia and Cruithne, journeyed to meet Cakatoa, met a bunch more at a NS Meet (Infinite Dunes, IV Stalin, Compulsive Depression, Ollieland, and by proxy with pictures Il Ruffino), and finally hung out with Tactical Grace for a few days.

Next, the book returned to California where it had another meetup, this time including ZetaOne, Raistlins Apprentice, Gasponia, MonteOzarka, and Callisdrun. That meetup included an insane amount of ice cream at Ghiradelli’s (2 Earthquakes for 4 of us :D) Following that one, John Ashcroft Land was added on his trip to the Bay Area

Then, the next big trip, this time I journeyed with Gasponia all over the eastern US. First, Frisbeeteria, then Katganistan, Tresville, and Carterway at the NY Public Library. Following that, Thel D’Ran, Thyatira, and Eluvatar. Up to Canada to see MiniNeeNee and Zorn-Uzkul then back to the US for a meeting with Darkesia and then a mini mod get together with Hotrodia and The Most Glorious Hack. Finally, down south, there was BigBoy4018 (named after a train we saw), and Naivetry and Agamemnon.

Along the way, everyone signed the book, added their little part, changed others’ meanings, and generally created a once in a lifetime work.

So, this past fall I decided to send the book to Max. And the book had even more of a journey. I mailed it on October 6th, and after 2 months of no response from Max I asked him if he’d gotten it, he asked around and said no. Since I hadn’t mailed it with any tracking I was essentially screwed, which made me extremely sad. BUT!! On my birthday, the best present ever arrived. The box (completely intact with book inside) was returned to my front door. Also, let the record show I had the address completely right the first time. Either way, I sent the book (with tracking) back to Max again and he has gotten it.

All told, I believe 36 people signed the book. Such a small assortment of NSers, but they were all lovely people to see and meet.

Didn't I forumban and IP ban one of the characters in the book? That's probably why it bounced in the mail - couldn't find the DNS address.

Perhaps not "lovely", Tresville, but fun to hang out with and certainly not in need of mummy-wrap about the face. Carterway and I had a blast with you, Erastide and Gasponia. :)
