Holy crap, Max has an Australian accent
Okay, I've known that Max was Australian since I first started playing this game (Even before I read Jennifer Government) and it has only been reinforced since then. It's mentioned quite often in his blog, in those little mini-bios on the inside covers of his books, and all over this web-site. Still, I've never actually heard him speak and, even though I intellectually acknowledge his origin, whenever I read anything he wrote I always hear it in my own voice. However, I just watched Max's TV interview on FOX and, hot damn, the guy actually sounds Australian. I mean seriously, he sounds more Australian than my math teacher (Who happens to be Australian).
It's just like wow; who would have ever thought that he would actually sound Australian?

I seem to remember when he went on tour, he said to those who wouldn't be able to see him that all they were missing was someone "taller and more Australian than you'd expect". So, figures.

Um, I dunno... I don't assume that everyone I talk to here sounds like they grew up in Bensonhurst with me. When people are from Australia, I tend to think they'll sound... well, Australian. (But of course, that begs the question of WHERE from Australia, too...)

He sounded Austrailian when we all had a round at the bar, and previously at the book reading (where he apologized because he said "arse" instead of "ass" out of habit).

that would make sense, him being Australian and whatnot :p

Not really. There's hardly any regional variation in our accent.

Not surprised at all by the accent, since I knew Max was Australian. However, I was surprised when I watched the clip from Fox. I expected Max to look like this:

Yes there is SA has more of a pommy plum in the mouth accent whereas the eastern states are a bit harsher. There was a documentary on the different accents throughout Australia and how they developed, I just gave you one example there are a few others around and even idioms are different in different states.

I was looking at that and it is exactly the same jumper I have, I know where he got it from too. Country Road.
Though I must say he doesn't sound like I expected.
