How about a master list of everyone who read it and is a member? Just for fun!
I have it requested from my library system, if I like it I will probably buy it. From what I saw on the "look inside" feature on Amazon, it looks pretty good.

I've read Jennifer Government and now it's one of my absolutely favorite books ever! It's so funny and just so darn awesome! I'm gonna read Mr Barry's other books, too. So add me to the list..

I read JG, and my nation is the same name as my account but i enjoied the book alot, it reminded me of something that might possible happen. I love the first words from the Author, "Max Barry is Australlian, for that he appologizes." :p
Read it, own it, got 5 people to buy it, and need a new copy.

I've just finished reading Jennifer Government, and it is definately one of my favorite books! So funny at the times, yet serious the other times... Humor, action, some romance (I wouldn't mind if there was a bit more of it, though)... In short, absolutely great!
Bazalonia']My favourite JG Character.... Buy!
Same here! Buy is such a sweet guy, and he is definately my favorite character from Jennifer Government!

If they don't have it in stock ask about it... the worst they can say is "We won't be able to get that in" and with that you'd be no worse off.
Bought it a long time ago, Syrup as well. Waiting for Company to come out here...

I wasn't too fond of Violet. Jennifer Government was a good character, but not my favourite. John Nike was a little too intense for my liking. Buy was a sweetie and Hack was just humourous.

I actually found NS before I read the book. And by "read the book" I mean requested it at the school library 2 weeks before school ended and procrastinatingly read it. What I did read, I sure did like.
I think I got to the point where the guy was about to kill that girl.. or something.

I finally got around to reading it a few years after I started playing Nation States. It was all right. I thought the ideas in the book were better than the actual writing though. I've heard Syrop is better, but I haven't gotten around to that one yet. It's just not the type of book I usually read.
I'm really more into reading gritty sci fi and non-fiction.
The Most Glorious Hack
13-07-2007, 04:52
I can relate to that. It's certainly not hard sci-fi. You might enjoy Syrup, though; I liked it better than Jennifer Government. It's more a send-up of marketing and popular culture than pseudo-sci-fi.

I bought the book recently, after coming across NS (pretty good non-lethal marketing strategy, Mr. Barry), and I enjoyed it. It was no Snowcrash (by Neal Stephenson, which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who liked JG) but it was solid.

I keep awake on 5 hour drives with mobile games, and text messaging. ;)
If I can get them from the library* I will read them all this weekend (I'm a quick reader - took me a day and a night to read the latest Harry Potter book). :)
*Because I am a if it is not on the shelf I won't buy it person :$ Plus Pay Pal says my bank account doesn't exist.
