I've been browsing through Max's web-site for a while, reading news he's posted and opinions he's had, and I found out that originally Jennifer Government had a few characters (both major and minor) who were cut out because they couldn't really be tied into the story very well. Others had their roles really reduced so that they remain but a pale image of their former self. Miranda Hewlett-Packard is a good example of the former, Holly T.A. is a good example of the latter. Now, upon reading some of the 'deleted scenes' that can be found on Max's web-site, I want to know the rest of the story. I doubt Max is going to write a sequel to Jennifer Government (If he is I've heard zilch about it) and even if he does I doubt these cut charatcers will be there, but what about a companion novel?
For those who don't know, a companion novel (My own personal term, I don't know what they're actually called) is a novel set in the same time/place of a previous novel, but detailing different events. Examples in fiction are the Ender/Bean series by Orson Scott Card, the Ender series details the life of Ender Wiggin and has Bean as a supporting character but the Bean series details the life of Bean and has Ender merely as a supporting charatcer. The same things are happening, the focus of the story is merely on a different subject.
Well, what if Max wrote a companion novel to JG? The story of all those supporting charatcers that he had to cut out due to his inability to connect them to Jennifer. He could focus on Miranda and Hollys weird relationship (Okay, I admit, it's really just the thought that they're both women that is driving this post), maybe Johan T.A. (The T.A. president before Holly and who was originally supposed to be killed along with Nathaniel ExxonMobil), and everyone else who he originally had in there. Even Jared, the boy-toy!
Now, of course writing any novel isn't easy (I've tried, failed, and that's why I'm the one telling Max what to write instead of writing it myself) but I think it would at least be a little easier than writing a sequel/different novel since he's written a lot of the interactions between the characters and he already has a backstory for the book (That being the events of JG).
What do you think?
