Is it just me, or is Jennifer a pretty bad mother?

Let's look at the facts:

1) She promises to take her daughter to get a pet, and even when she gets out of work early it's "to late" to go get it.

2) She again promises to go get her daughter a pet, but drops it so she can go have sex. Forget saving Buys life, she went for sex.

3) She again promises her daughter that they'll go get a pet, but instead she makes an effort to be sent to Europe and tells her daughter that she wishes she could stay.

4) She has a vendetta against her daughters father, going so far as to actually neglecting her daughter so she can get him.

5) She has almost no regard for her own life as long as she gets John Nike which, while acceptable for a cop, is not acceptable for a parent. Think about what would happen to your daughter if you die!

Jennifer might love her daughter, but she's really not that good of a parent.

Haha...perhaps Max meant it to be this way as a commentary on the family lives of government workers?

Most government workers don't go off to have sex with suicidal French guys that they've only met once......at least, I hope they don't. I really don't want to lose my virginity to a suicidal French guy.

I think it's about her journey towards facing and defeating her past, and realizing her priorities in life. She does intend to get the dog towards the end, doesn't she?

C'mon, every parent gets at least one kidnapping for free before the irresponsibility starts to really reflect on their parental record.

I would say that she is a pretty bad mother - she's obsessed with her job and forgets about her higher responsibilities.

I'd have to agree; to her, getting her funding is more important than her daughte, who she ends up leaving with pretty much a complete stranger.

Not just a stranger, but a suicidal stranger

Exactly. It's almost as if Jennifer has no motherly instinct at all... I wonder if Max wrote her with that in mind.

It could be a look into the past where 'honor' is more important than anything else. Insults and wrongs must be revenged by the wronged regardless of danger. Of course I don't think it's really honorable to abandon your daughter like that, but I'm not Jennifer herself.

Quite possibly, Klonor. I never looked at it through a perspective quite like that before.

Okay, I actually don't really think that that is the way it is, but I thought it best to throw out all possibilities rather than keep it un-posted

I know, but it was a perspective I never saw it from... I might just have to read it for the fourth or fifth time...
