Moral Dilemna

Well anyway, here i am playing this fun online game, free for me due to the generosity of one MB, and thinking to myself that i might go an buy one of his books. So I walked up to the bookshop near my work and low and behold a copy of syrup in hardback. This copy in particular is second hand and priced at about %25 of normal retail. Should i feel guilty buying the book knowing that not a single cent will get back to MB. Now in general i am pretty ambivalent to intellectual property rights and the thousands of MP3s on my hard drive are testament to that but in this case i do feel at least some sympathy for the artist. On the other hand, in purchasing the book i guess i am helping in some way to ensure that MB is taken seriously by the local literary community by demonstrating his popularity.
I will be buying that book in the next couple of days unless the Nationstates community persuades my otherwise. Comments are thus welcome.

Buy the book new. Struggling writers really need the sales. Then show it to your friends. You will feel much better about it. It will even make your MP3s play better.

RedDragon you are not actually Thomas Harris are you - if so then you certainly cannot claim to be struggling. If I show or lend the book to my friends, isnt that just depriving poor max of more potential sales?

Nope. Just show it to thwm. Maybe let them read Chapter 1 or something. Then if they like it, they will buy it.

I'd buy it. Share it. Just get the word out about Jennifer Government and Max Barry.

If it's in good condition buy syrup. Put it on your shelve until it gains in value and go out and buy a new copy of Jennifer Government

Buy the book. I'm sure Max wouldn't mind....and you can always send him a cheque or something if you feel that bad.
