Hmm, I suppose it is sad but the 'game' has become more than this now....you get me?

Yeah, CE is right. I mean, I started playing the game before I even realized it was all about a book. Then, I bought the book, read it, loved it, and love the game even more.

I heard about the game from a friend, and he said it was to do with a book. I bought and read the book a few weeks after starting playing the game. And while the book sits on a shelf, my gameplay continues. This game really is an entity of its own now.

well.. you can look at it 2 ways
1. we are all cheap illiterate hobos who use up poor old maxys bandwidth by playing HIS free game
or
2. (more preferable) We are all illiterate hobos who use up poor old maxys bandwidth by playing HIS free game. and have bought the book and think it is that good no comment or critical analysis is required of it. and considering every second topic on this board is 'e love maxes book' there is no more reason to waste bandwidth on another one of these topics. ie, max, assume that if we dont post we all loved the book and want to save you a few pennys next time you get your hosting bill.

Indeed, you are all right. As Max said, it started as a little promotion that he expected people to quit after a few weeks, and now it threatens to consume his life.

Aye. And what I love is that Jennifer Government is on a banned books list in Florida, which I think is an award. If you can write a piece that causes that much controversy that it is banned, that makes you a good writer.

Way to go Max.

It's banned in schools, I didn't specify that. And why? Because our government LOVES censorship!

Typical. Well, you should write to your local political repesentative and ask him what he intends to do about. If not, protest in your own way. Perhaps wear JG T-shirts (seeing as you Americans don't have to wear uniform)....

Yup school uniform suck...
Luckily I have that behind me now!!!
I've started my study leave only a month of exams left then I can burn the thing :D

We should smuggle copies of JG into Florida, you never know it might be fun and what's the worst thing that could happen?
Probably a fine.

Sorry Cog, there is no article that I know of.

I was searching the net for about an hour, calling libraries and such looking for a list, but I couldn't find a recent list online, and didn't get through at my local library. Sorry.

Wouldn't you local council have something on it as it would have to go through them to be banned....wouldn't it?

Perhaps you could tell Max and get him to try and unban it - if only for the sake of those poor children in those Florida schools.

Sorry that I'm a tad late to the ball game, but anywhen.
I'd not be suprised at all to here of it being banned. Seems very Jeb Bush-like to me, from what I know of him.

http://www.banned-books.com doesn't list Max Barry nor Jennifer Government as a banned author or book (respectively).

I've done other mucking around on various Floridian education sites, but haven't seen anything there either (not that they're likely to brag about such things). These leads me to one of two conclusions:

1) This is, essentially, an urban legend based on Florida's rather inenviable status as a "leader" in book banning.

2) A school, or a few schools, have individually banned the book. Since it isn't a state-wide initiative by the Board of Education, it would only be marked on individual school(s)' website(s) (if at all, it could have been an internal memo). In other words, no easier to dig up than if Billy's mom down the street said he couldn't read it.

In all honesty, I lean more towards theory #1. No offence, Max, but I don't think JG is vulgar or subversive enough to merit a ban.

I agree with you, Hack, but somewhere out there you have those extreme anti-Capitalists probably using it as propaganda for abolishing Capitalism.

Couldn't the school just decide to ban it themselves?!

Many schools do opt to do that, which is within their rights.
