Where can I get Jennifer Government from?

I live in Australia (the same country as Max Barry), and I've asked at every bookstore in the city (and there are a few of them), and not only do they not have the book, not one single person I've asked has ever heard of it!

I saw a copy in New Zealand a few weeks ago (at Auckland Airport, of all places) but by that stage I was totally out of NZ currency and I had a plane to catch. The fact it was NZD $39.95 didn't help, either.

Anyway, does anyone in AUSTRALIA know where I can get the book WITHOUT ORDERING IT OFF THE INTERNET? I'd really like to read it, but it's a bit difficult when no-one in the city has ever heard of the book...

What's the problem with ordering it off the internet if worse comes to worse?

Of course any bookstore worth the name will order you any in-print book that it has access to without adding a cent for ordering it (bookstores get shipments from each major publisher several times a week, so it is no big deal adding a few books).

I dont buy things off the net- I don't beleive in putting my Credit Card details out there, and I always get screwed buying stuff from overseas because of the exchange rate and Shipping & Handling Charges.

I could try and order it, but it would take months... and like I said most of the bookshops in town have never heard of it, and they will charge extra to get the book in...

I had those worries as well, when I was buying different books, but they proved to be false as all turned out well - as long as you go with a reputable company (such as Amazon) then there will be no problem.

No, I've ordered books and it takes a day-a week depending on when you made the requests, and how many times they order it.

They SHOULD NOT charge you extra for ordering it unless they have to mail it to you, or order an edition from another country.

Threaten to go to another store.

If you still can not find one I'll try to hook you up with the independent bookstores where I live. You'll still have to pay shipping, ut at least you'll have an excuse for paying it. Not just some greedy bookstores thinking to fool you.

It costs them nothing extra to special order it than it does to buy books they normally have, remember, unless their supplier is doing it to them. Do not let them get away with scalping you. Ask them why it costs so much. They'll proably tell you that it is their supplier, so talk to their supplier (it may be the truth, but it's probably the store trying to rob you).

'Welcome.

If you still have further trouble with the book stores, you can give me their email addresses, and I'll pester them for you.

I've never heard of bookstores charging extra to order an in-print book in either. As Qaaolchoura says, it costs the store nothing extra... and even if you never turn up to collect the book, they can return it to the publisher and get their money back. So it's all good from their point of view.

Probably has more to with the inexperience 15 year old behind the counter giving out wrong information than anything else- I went back there today and they said they could order the book at no extra charge.

Unfortunately, with Uni having gone back, I now have no spare money with which to buy the book! Curse the People Who Publish Educational Textbooks and Charge Far Too Much For Them!

Fortunately, by the time the book arrives I should have the money to pay for it...

Isn't that just annoying! When you get some inexperienced idiot trying to help you when he/she clearly has no idea as to what is going on. Very annoying indeed.

It's not that hard to copy. I think that I always spell your name right (although I do abbreviate it).

Hmm. Was wondering if it's available somewhere in Sydney. Be it a small little bookstore or a supermarket....

It probably is... there's a really huge Bookstore in the Galleries Victoria, that seems to have EVERYTHING in print.

Unfortunately, I'd never heard of Jennifer Government the last time I was in Sydney, otherwise I'd have looked there for a copy...
