is there really going to be a JG film??

01-02-2004, 21:58
i was just wondering, is there actually going to be a Jennifer Government film, or is it just wishful thinking? I hope there is, it'd be amazing ^_^

Also, were any other brit's who couldn't wait till the more sensibly-sized copy came out annoyed with the stupidly impracticle size and lack of map in the british version? ='(

Yep, the screenplay for the movie is currently being written.

The smaller paperback is apparently coming out on the 5th of February.

Wootage, I got the smaller British verison with the map on February 7th for just £5.99!
The film is going to be sooo good. So long as they have the battle between Burger King and McDonalds I will be happy.

Not currently. I could probably fix that however.

It would be a good publicity ploy to have Jennifer Anniston play JG, don't you think?

She's even a good actress, which is a plus.

What are 'trade paperbacks'?
They're the larger $12-16 paperbacks (dunno how much they cost in pounds), as opposed to the smaller $5-8 dollar mass market paperbacks, and generaly have nicer covers and better paper as well.

Hmm, we probably don't get them over here as I don't think that I've ever seen one - I could be wrong though.

Good question! I'm just guessing here, but it could be an indie or arthouse film. The book to me has that kinda feeling. But that's just me talking.

"Independant" film. A small release movie that doesn't get to mainstream theaters; this may be more of an American practice. To compare, A Stir of Echos was 'indie', while The Sixth Sense was more mainstream. Other notable indie films would be 21 Grams, Requiem For a Dream, Existence, or Tigerland.

However, considering the company that optioned the rights, I doubt it will be indie.

Basically, England only gets films that are mainstream from America (as I've never heard of any of the 'indie' films mentionned).

Sometimes a movie starts off as an independent-type film ... but then , surpisingly, it gets a wide appeal and gets more notice that a major movie release...

Examples in the US would include:

Eaasy Rider, Being John Malkovich, Clerks, Reservoir Dogs, Good Will Hunting, Fargo...

Even A River Runs Through It is listed as an Independent film (although with Redford backing it like he did... I wonder how much major studio money was involved...)

Good point, but if we're gonna talk Indie-to-Mainstream, we might as well mention about the biggest one in recent memory: The Blair Witch Project.

And, CE, go see if you can find Requiem For a Dream. It's a very good movie. Fair warning: you'll feel like you've been kicked in the gut after watching it. It's not a happy film.

Hack, you are SO correct... here I was trying to come up with Indie films that we know here in the US...and would be recognizable Across the Pond (or Down Under) and I forgot about Blair Witch! And it was filmed 50 miles away....DUH!

I wonder if the chemical attack on McDonalds will be filmed in the real Melbourne Central - not that it's that much to look at given that the entire centre is presently being rebuilt and half of the food court has been blocked off. Hopefully it'd be back to normal when/if the filming begins.

Pity the real Chadstone is nowhere near as big as was made out in the book, it's only two levels. Oh, and there's no Wal-Mart.
