What has Max got against Invercargill?

Did he try getting coffee there or something?
(No, I don't live there, but I know people who do, and they hate it. You can't get real coffee, the "kebab" shops use tortillas instead of pitas and ask you if you want grated cheese, and they have a local liquor trust whose main purpose seems to be ensuring publicans can make a big profit. Oh, and you can't buy Jennifer Government in any of the bookstores. Does that suck or what?)

Where is this place? What country is it in?

Invercargill is a southern city of New Zealand.
Never been south of Dunedin myself, but I hear anything down there is a shithole. 'Specially Gore.

And a location mentioned in Jennifer Government

Essentially, yes. Though it's not quite NRA territory... it's the south Auckland farmers who are keen on guns and shooting people.

Well, no wonder he doesn't like it. I'm sure Max is very against all that.

Heh, why do you think the book is anti-Invercargil? Because there's an NRA base there?

Just to say - I didn't know that there was an NRA in New Zealand. I thought that it only existed in America.

Well, it's portrayed as the sort of quiet little backwater that nobody would ever want to visit. Which is entirely accurate :)
I thought the NRA base was in Bluff (which I've never been to, but have heard is an even smaller shithole).
(CE: no, we don't have an NRA here yet, but I'm sure we will when we become a USA Country)

I thought that the UK was to become the 51st state.

Perhaps it did. We are already very American that becoming the 51st state would not change much.
