Now that Max Barry is loaded..
..after selling the film rights to Jennifer Government, can we finally expect NS2 to get up and running? I suggest he buys an island to put the servers on, maybe Iceland, and hires some staff.
I can program in rudimentary BASIC from playing with my C64, if you're looking.

:roll: I hardly think he is hugely rich now...if the film does well and his books do well, then that could be a different story but I don't think he is rich now!

How sucessful the movie will be depends on how much he advritises. It's a great idea, and if he lets people know, he will be loaded.

You can usually tell how good a film is when you look at the little soundbites from various papers and magazines that critics have said. Not by what the comment is but from who said it. If the only positive critique they got was from some girl's magazine you just know the film is going to be terrible.
True, but JG will be a good movie. So people will only know of it through ads. Then they will look at the reviews.
When I read the book i always imagined John Nike as looking like agent Smith from the Matrix. Funny that...

That is true excpet for "My Big Fat Greek wedding".They was hugely successful before it got TV ads.But that is only one exception.

Max Barry sold the rights to the movie. That means he has pretty much got nothing to say about the film. If Soderbergh (who is an awesome director, you should all see Traffic) decided he wants John Nike to win, he will. Max probably got a bag of money, and if he was lucky a percentage of the profit. It is very unlikely he will actually be producing or even screenwriting, so all the money he has can go straight into this game! No need to worry over promotion.
The movie probably wouldn't use the same names as the book. Lawyers would jump on a movie much more heavily than they would on a book. WB would be sued to hell by Nike and the other companies.

Good point. Nike will moan about having their characters having ghetto kids killed after performing a back-of-the-envelope cost-benefit analysis, and trying to rape a woman, American Airlines will demand that the prostitution gag be removed, etc etc. By the time all the featured companies' lawyers get their say, there won't be a decent joke left, and for what is essentially a light-hearted satire on globalisation and the corporate world, that is literally death by a thousand cuts.
The only corporate interest which will be happy will be the NRA, who will just love to see themselves elevated to the status of a global army, and crucially, remaining undefeated at the end. And even refusing to execute Jennifer! I can see them chuckling now.
If the producers give in, it will be a crap movie. I wouldn't be surprised to see Max Barry publicly disassociate himself from it, if it ever comes out.
