I'd have to say it's well worth the purchase. It's a quality book, and an enjoyable read.

And not all that expensive, either.

I'm reading it right now! There's quite a few references to NS too. Like the guy it's dedicated to (something Theisen) turns up as one of the random names in the issues. I wonder if Theisen has a nation? Hmm... possibility for a new topic there...

I see you've been playing this game for over 2 months. There is a pretty good correlation between the game and the book, so I would recommend it. And let me be the first to praise its character development, which I think is even better than its political ideas.

When you log into your nation, the banner across the top of the screen that mentions Jennifer Government and Syrup, is what you're looking for. The links in that banner will tell you about the novels, as well as allow you to read the first chapter of each.

Depending on where you live, you can probably find it in most any bookstore. They're also available online at places like Amazon.com

It should be. Of course, I prefer Border's, but that's me.

Finding Syrup might be more difficult, as it's an older book, but if you can't find them, I'm sure B&N would be more than willing to order it for you.

i ordered it yesterday i hope its as good as all of you say :D

Not sure which countries we're talking about here but, as you can see when you log into your nation, Syrup has been reissued in the US and Canada, so it should be that difficult to track down there. Amazon.com has it.

If you're in the UK it's also possible to get a copy from Amazon.co.uk. I got one last month, when they said they has two copies in stock. They now have four, and say more will be available soon.

Far be it for me to advertise Amazon, but Syrup is an excellent read.

Indeed it was. I kinda liked it better than JG, actually.

My point on difficulty of find was just that, as a reprint, stores might be less likely to stock it, as opposed to the brand spanking new hardcover that is JG.

Actually, my local Border's has 3 copies. I centered one on the shelf to help it get attention

Why is everybody buying it? Just borrow it from the library and you'll be able to read it three times over by the time it's due. Other than being a fast read, the book is great. But I don't have enough reliable income to buy it. As soon as I'm old enough to get a job I might though.

Two reasons.

1. I prefer to own the books I read, as I'll be able to read them any time I wish, and to increase my collection.

2. It helps support the site, which is a good thing. Of course, the books are worth reading, regardless.

Thats the reason that I bought the book. And for all books, buying first editions might mean that they could be worth something in the future...well one can hope!

At first I was hesitant to buy it - I'm picky about my political reading, but I saw it in a book shop and I was looking for something to read on holidays. its a good read but a quick one. An amusing story, but as a buying books investment goes I'd borrow it. Mainly because I think its a book you wouldn't bother reading again and you fly through it. On saying that I did laugh a lot when reading it, so if you have the spare cash by all means get it, but if your short of cash and want a book you'll get value out of (in terms of time spent reading per unit of currency) buy War and Peace.

I reccomend it to anyone I come across. For a few reasons.

Max is Australian, nothing that comes out of Australia is bad! And I own one of the first editions of Syrup ;) Read it before I ever heard about Nation States...actually found this place when I was looking to see if Maxx Barry, and Max Barry were the same author, hehe.

I'd reccomend both, they're excellent books!

(I wonder if Max did any signings of Syrup too...mine has a signature scrawled across the blank thingy page but it was given as a gift, so I have no authenticity proof...)

You think your friends are forging signatures? :)

There were some Syrups signed... hang onto that one, could one day be worth a fortune!! ;)

I don't think my friends would forge it, but they may have gotten it from someone who would have ;) Ah well. I'll pretend it's real anyway!

!!!WARNING!!! ~ SPOILER ~ !!!WARNING!!!

The first chapters are simply great... the ideas with adidas sueing ex- employees for shrinking profits, as well as the police as a assassination agency were brilliant (As well as a few other descriptions and some other stuff at the beginning).

Unfortunately, it did not continue with brilliant ideas like the mentioned ones.

Instead, we have the lonesome, fighting women with her poor daughter, of course all of her is good, her ex (of course completely evil), a few weak characters (esspecially Buy and Hack, but it`s partly valid for Violet, too) where it seems like Max couldn`t decide how they should be...

It`s just... stereotypical.

Not to forget the way to obvious moral implications (Hack on his rampage tour...) and the foreseeable character of the story.

~ Rezo

PS: However, there are worse books... And considering the low price, it`s quite acceptable.

Opinions vary, man. I discovered the game & the book yesterday, bought the book today, & just finished it.

Life changing? No. A good story I'll tell others about? Hell, yes.

Short, almost painfully so. Suffers somewhat in substance as a result.

Cuttingly amusing in parts, more towards the beginning though. Devolves somewhat into a pseduo-action/drama type story line that doesn't really suit the beginning.

Whilst hardly a "can't put it down", it's worth the read. Not a book I'm likely to read again, but I'm rather picky in me re-reading anyhow.
