yes. it's extremely good.

Never read it. And from the sounds of it, it has an extreme liberal and anti-capitalism bias.

It was a decent book, although a bit messy and predictable. Still, I enjoyed it - it offered a different (although still bleak) view of the future from 1984 and books just like it.

I really didn't like the character Violet, though. I mean, she could have done all right, if she were reworked. She changes so drastically after she sells her virus (don't want to give away too much plot, though), and it comes right out of left field. It's a complete personality shift.

It's not anti-capitalism biased, it's just a good fun read. Pretty original too.

The original definition of liberal implied capitalism. Traditional, or "small-L" liberals like me believe in freedom of people and the free market. Welfare liberals are a different sort; they brought on the concept of making sure everyone has an equitable opportunity to succeed in life. In the old definitions, conservatives actually wanted tight regulation on business. Kind of odd how the whole thing has flip-flopped.

I wonder what the character Barry cut out was like, doubt anyone knows, do you?

that's exactly what i've been confused about. i always thought that the liberal stance were pro-capitalism until some right-wings started putting together "lefties" and "anti-capitalism"...

I'm pretty sure it's a political book.

I wouldn't catagorize it under politics. It's a dystopian novel stressing the bleak future of too much consumerism and unregulated capitalism.

In what way do you think she changed? I didn't see a shift at all. She never showed any sign of concern for anyone else; it's just that this trait didn't bring her into conflict with anyone early on, and did, later.

That's my general take on it too.

I think that at then end she changed, but only when she realised what she had lost. Of course, she turned into an evil psycho (much like a couple of my ex-g/f's  )...

Great book, for the most part a light-hearted satire on consumer culture, with an element of crime thriller. It is not political in the sense that it rams a Liberal message down your throat, it is just a good read, people of any political persuasion can enjoy it.
