What type of book is Jennifer Government? Sci-Fi, Political, ? I've found it in my local book store's sci-fi area, but from what I've read, it just takes place in the future...

Science Fiction encompasses many different sciences--not just interplanetary travel, computer advances, and biological cloning. JENNIFER GOVERNMENT is science fiction on the level of Social Sciences. In that regard, it's more akin to classic SF stories like BRAVE NEW WORLD or FAHRENHEIT 451.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'd place Jennifer Government in the realm of distopia literature, which is largely a 20th and 21st century phenomenon.

Jennifer Government fits into the cyberpunk genre as begun by William Gibson in Neuromancer. It's all there - a corporate-controlled world, individuals powerless to effect societal change, and rampant self-interest.

However, Jennifer is a little too whimsical to be true cyberpunk, and it also contains contains some sentimentality. It seems almost like a cyberpunk spoof.
