Going Green

Hey fellow WA members. As some of you might have seen, I recently proposed a new resolution which aims at helping clean up our planet. I wanted to get on the forums and do a little promoting.

I know the argument of global warming is a heated one: does it exist, are we the main cause, its going to happen with our without us, etc. However, I think one thing that we should all agree on is that we humans have not exactly been the perfect caretakers of mother earth, and that we owe a little bit of effort towards the planet which we call our home.

With this in mind, I would love to see a greener WA very soon. We may not be able to completely correct our civilizations polluting ways. Some of you may find my proposal to liberal. Others may want even stricter rules. But I have put together what I feel are some easy to achieve goals that can have a immediate and large impact on the way we treat our planet.

If you could quickly glance over the articles I have laid out (currently the second to last of the proposals) and either give me feedback, or approve it, then that would be great. If it does not pass by the due date, I will take your ideas, try and rework it, and go for it again.

Lets work for a greener WA, and in turn a healthier planet.

I prefer the WA in it's current ochre and purple colour scheme

Well in all fairness, the colour scheme is green. I think.

While not my actual thoughts when I said "greener WA", Unibot does bring up an excellent point.

Greetings Ambassador! May Your Honor's feel welcome and productive at the hallowed World Assembly halls.

Not that it's against the rules (as far as I know) but I think it would be more enlightening to Fellow Members if a Draft Resolution were submitted to debate in the forums before it is submitted to Delegate Appreciation.

In this diversity of Nations Your Honor will always find an incredible variety of concerns, and very probably they'll add to the improvement of Your Honor's text and greatly improve its chances for passage.

I'd also advise Your Honor to add the text of Your Honor's Draft Resolution to Your Honor's post, so as to make quoting parts of it easier and making debate more productive.

Yours truly,

For reference, here is the text of the proposal.

Going Green

A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental

Industry Affected: All Businesses

Proposed by: Atharika

Description: Description: As demonstrated by the near global success of the Kyoto Treaty, there is a serious and widespread concern over the effect of pollution on our world. Although opinions may differ on the amount of spending countries should devote to controlling pollution and creating Green technology, the general consensus is that we need change. We must make deliberate steps towards healing our fast deteriorating world.

Therefore it is proposed that the following steps be taken to ensure our future generations will inherent a healthy and beautiful planet.

Section 1:
Prevention:

Article 1: Acting on the scientific proof the Green house gasses are indeed destabilizing our atmosphere, all nations must cut down on Carbon emission. The use of outdated technology in power plants, and unclean coal mining/processing facilities is illegal.

Article 2: Slash and burn techniques and other forms of deforestation will be illegal.

Article 3: New, cleaner car standards must be enforced.

Article 4: All trash and garbage burning is illegal

Section 2:
Repair:

Article 1: The WA will create a committee specifically appointed to enforce these amendments, to research further prevention methods, to research better green technology, and to adapt these Resolution as times change.

Article 2: Rainforests and other such bodies of trees will be given a “grace period”. During this time no commercial use of the trees shall be permitted.¬

Article 3: All non-developing nations will assign some part of their respective governments to work on Green Technology within their own nation, for their own benefit, OR they will help the WA’s Green Committee through funds or personnel. This will be done in the good faith that as nations of the WA, we wish to see each other prosper with new technology.
