The Green Car Initiative
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: Automobile Manufacturing
Proposed By: Spartzerina

Description:
The Nations of the World Assembly,

NOTING that scientific research has found that cars produce greenhouse gasses, notably, CO2, commonly known as Carbon Dioxide,

KNOWING that scientific research has also found that greenhouse gasses trap heat from the sun, making the world hotter,

ALSO KNOWING that a rise in temperature causes adverse effects to happen,

REQUIRES governments taking part in the World Assembly to:

1) Make all cars have over 35 MPG; Trucks, SUVs, and Minivans must get over 25 MPG by the year 2020,

2) Research alternative fuels, such as ethanol, natural gas, wind power, etc., and implement the one the government sees fit by the year 2025.

How does this look? Please give your ideas to improve this resolution, or give constructive criticism.

Does ethanol burning not also produce greenhouse gases? It's likely that hydroelectric and solar power would be adversely affected by climate change? Windpower seems to be the only way to go, but Esperanto 2's scientists have not yet invented a windpowered car. Other possibilities are controlled fusion and tapping into solar wind and cosmic radiation, but the technical problems have yet to be overcome. To be used for surface transport, all these technologies would require batteries or induction.
Considering alernative legislation requiring wind turbines to be produced in proprtion to car and aircraft production. Anyone like to draft?

'15% more fuel-efficient' than what? It's not the case that all current cars have the same fuel efficiency, so what are you using as the baseline?

Thanks for your input, both of you.

Ethanol has three advantages, at least in theory: It's renewable, it can be domestically produced, and it burns cleaner than gas.

'15% more fuel-efficient' than what? It's not the case that all current cars have the same fuel efficiency, so what are you using as the baseline?

I am changing that section to say "Make all cars have over 35 MPG; Trucks, SUVs, and Minivans must get over 25 MPG by the year 2020."

I am making other changes too.
