Speaking Out

Does telling people the truth actually hurt anyone? Because I believe if one were to speak out about something then that person will utimately get banned from some organization or federation.

What on earth is the honoured Ambassador talking about ? They are as free as any other Ambassador to say what they wish within the boundaries of the law. And Naturally the rest of the Ambassadors to this organisation, subject to the same legal restraints, are perfectly within their rights to contradict you or point out what they may see as the foolishness of your ideas if they wish to also.

Well yeah but I just wondering though if those that are in the WA have free speech when it comes to proposing ideas that might sound kind of radical.

Of course, honoured Ambassador, within the law they are permitted to propose whatever they like. And within the law the Ambassadors to this organisation are permitted to critique such offerings as they see fit. Frequently this process leads to the drafting of better law and is of excellent utility.

Take me for example, a Radical.

Also coincidentally a bit of a NS reject but not a criminal (unless of course you count that run in with the mods a while back...).

So does our laws actually affect those that aren't WA members when we pass them.

So how can you tell what year it is in NationStates? Is the year made up like 2011 or something?

Different nations have different years. Rutianas has it's own calendar system, which puts us on a different year from others. So there's no one specific year that everyone 'agrees' on.

No w.a. laws can directly effect non-member states but the way in which member states interact with non-member states may be effected.

According to the mods in various tech pages and just in general discussion it is agreed upon that NS time is

one day RL time = one year NS time

From Nov 1. 2002 ? Origin date
That would make the year 2219 in the NationStates Universe.
But other nations may use a different calendar or their position in the universe may have higher sources of gravity which causes a time dilation. Also 2219 is not a direct conversion from a Julian Calender, unless you want it to be.

OOC: The point I was making is that even with that calculation, no one can really stick a year on things. If you go from the exact date that the game started, then you can, however, there are nations who proclaim the date is 1600 or 2383. They may use the calculation, but their years are completely different. Just one of the reasons why I personally dislike proposals that give a year on their titles. :p

Which is especially appropriate to mock with regards to the WA, under that idea it takes the WA 5 years to finish voting on a resolution, I know it's a bureaucracy but that's ridiculous.
