Why should this esteemed body care about the complaints of nations who aren't members, who choose not to participate and who are not affected by our resolutions?I would like to think that at least some of us have a respectable enough reputation that our thoughts aren't dismissed out of hand...

I would never dismiss your opinions out of hand, as you still participate here. It's when a national delegation makes a grand and drawn-out pronouncement about how they're leaving and never darkening our door again that I tend to get a bit touchy. I will admit that I probably expressed that poorly, however. Apologies.

Note: the election is still ongoing but delegate information is no longer available once the voting is final and this is generally solid enough a vote to that the data can be used as is for analysis.
There seemed something interesting about the delegate votes for this resolution so as the vote is coming to a close I decided to do my favorite analysis on the numbers. The method is easy, adapted from boring graduate computer science classes on Shannon’s Information Theory. Basically I take the tallies of for and against delegate votes and sort these two lists by descending vote count. Then I plot these two lines on a log/log scale. The result, more or less, should be two downward angled straight lines.

The idea behind this is that there are a large number of regions with a small delegate endorsement count and a small number of regions with a large delegate endorsement count (in the same way that a language has a large number of frequently used words and a small number of infrequently used words)
From a delegate only view the vote is somewhat close (2545/2215). We can see that there are more “larger regions” that are opposed to this resolution but there are a significant number of smaller regions that are for the resolution which gives the advantage to the delegate for count. There are 2 regions with an endorsement number of over 100 for this resolution where there are 5 regions against. What is also interesting is the representative distribution which currently appears to be (2928/903). It appears to be the “common man” or the individual national representative who is the major deciding factor in this vote.
At the time I took the vote, here were the general results:
Votes For: 5473 Representatives (count) 2928 Delegates (count) 382
Votes Against: 3118 Representatives (count) 903 Delegates (count) 150
The analysis provided by the respected Ambassador for Tzorsland is extremely interesting indeed. It suggests that the democratic process of this organisation is robust, and certainly points to a widespread popular mandate for this resolution. We are gratified that the w.a. has expressed its will in this matter, and we congratulate the esteemed and revered delegacy of Mendosia on their success.

The State We’re In (09-18-08) With Len Dodd:
OPEN WITH a clip of President Jerzy Novakovich addressing The United Socialist State Senate:
“…and I am pleased to announce that the WA has passed the Sexual Privacy Act. This passage does not just represent more freedom for the people of the free world, but a beginning to the end of a form of discrimination that has plagued the world for thousands of years…”
CUT TO LEN DODD, IN STUDIO.
Len Dodd:
“That was President Jerzy Novakovich, today, addressing the Senate. What we see here is a classic example of how ‘J-No’ has run this country: by allowing the WA to dictate what we can and cannot do. This man, this…fine leader, has absolutely no regard for the sovereignty of this nation, this people, this legacy. We did not fight off the Soviets just to…bow before new masters.
And the fundamentals of this law are obscene. Obscene, Mr. President! Do you really think the people of this wonderful nation want these kinds of things happening in their country? Just take a look at what the act says:
‘Article 3(b): Each Nation can define an age of consent […]the individual will be considered above the age of consent for the purposes of the previous paragraph if he/she has entered puberty.’
Really, Mr. President? You want the people of this nation to…defile… nine-year-olds? It’s barbaric!
And what about this?
‘3(d) The provisions of this article will not be construed to ban […]professional organizations should an individual be unethically involved in sexual acts with a client or with someone otherwise under his/her authority or responsibility.’
So we’re legalizing prostitution now, Mr. President?
I respect you, Mr. President. If it weren’t for you and the Revolutionary Army, we may have never escaped the clutches of the Soviet Socialist Republics of the West Pacific. But to bend over for the Wuss Assembly? It’s idiotic! It makes us wonder what you were doing during your years abroad. You say you were studying in Exurbistan. You say you were learning to survive amongst The Nomadic Peoples of Those Who Walk Alone. You know what I think? I think you were sitting on a beach, sipping banana daiquiris in Mendosia!
Maybe we need a real man to straighten this country out.
I’m Len Dodd, and this is the State We’re In.”

Yet another piece of legislation for our Elders to interpret. Presumably this won't affect our laws against cohabitation; it's only what actually goes on while co-habiting that's protected, as I understand it?

...
After a recent survey discovered that nearly 40% of all citizens in MapleLeafss are single, there has been an increasingly loud call for the legalisation of prostitution.
"We can't allow this to happen!" protests Dr. Jennifer Hendrikson, senior pathologist of MapleLeafss's largest hospital. "Prostitution is a dangerous business and must remain illegal! People need to be more aware of the consequences that could follow like the risk of contracting HIV, chlamydia, or even syphilis. I say we get some funding for a large awareness programme on sexually transmitted diseases and maybe then people will act responsibly between the covers. It'll be expensive sure, but well worth it."
This is the position your government is preparing to adopt.
