RESOLUTION: Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act"

Hi,

Recently it came to my attention that a resolution promoting the arming of nations with nuclear weaponry had been passed within the World Assembly, albeit by a relatively slim margin.

It horrified me to see that the WA community could pass such a dangerous and misguided Resolution, and as such, I decided to put a case forward for the repealing of this resolution.

It is my understanding that there are several factions seeking to repeal this resolution, and all for excellent reasons. As such, I put forward this relatively simple argument, and I advise you all to vote to repeal this dangerous step toward Nuclear Proliferation.

Thank you for your time,

RESOLUTION TEXT - Author: MINNOW ECONOMIES

Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act"

ACKNOWLEDGES the dangers of terrorists and hostile nations.

REAFFIRMS that the horrors of Nuclear Warfare are too terrible to contemplate.

ACKNOWLEDGES that the fallout from any Nuclear strike could leave vast areas of land irradiated, with entire populations being at risk of irradiation or famine.

NOTES that this Resolution encourages Nuclear Proliferation and the use of Nuclear Weaponry.

NOTES that this Resolution makes no distinction between responsible and irresponsible governments within the World Assembly.

NOTES that diplomacy is a better mechanism of negotiation with non-WA members than Nuclear strikes.

SUGGESTS that nations do all within their power to defend themselves without arming themselves with Weapons of Mass Destruction.

1. That the World Assembly Resolution #10: Nuclear Arms Possession Act be rendered null and void.

The proposed repeal is on page 4 of proposed resolutions.

REAFFIRMS that the horrors of Nuclear Warfare are too terrible to contemplate. Irrelevant. The resolution does not encourage nuclear warfare; only preventing wars with deterrence.

ACKNOWLEDGES that the fallout from any Nuclear strike could leave vast areas of land irradiated, with entire populations being at risk of irradiation or famine. Again, irrelevant. The resolution doesn't even give nations the right to use nukes; only to produce them for defensive purposes.

NOTES that this Resolution encourages Nuclear Proliferation and the use of Nuclear Weaponry. It does neither. Developing a nuclear arsenal on your own is not "proliferation," and preserving the right of nations to do so (not even encouraging them to, just telling them they can) for purely defensive (deterrent) purposes is not necessarily encouraging their use.

NOTES that this Resolution makes no distinction between responsible and irresponsible governments within the World Assembly. First off, how do you propose the World Assembly do that? Second off, the resolution contains a provision requiring nations to take measures to ensure their weapons do not fall into the wrong hands. This measure, along with a strong anti-proliferation resolution, is really the only way to keep nukes out of the hands of rogue states.

NOTES that diplomacy is a better mechanism of negotiation with non-WA members than Nuclear strikes. The resolution neither encourages nuclear strikes nor discourages diplomacy. In fact, deterrence is an excellent way of promoting diplomatic solutions.

So what's your point?

He has no point, and neither does this repeal. As for arguments, SchutteGod summed them up much better than I ever could.

Again, irrelevant. The resolution doesn't even give nations the right to use nukes; only to produce them for defensive purposes.Actually it doesn't even give nations the right to produce them, it only affects possession.
