Is it just me or...

Are all of these current proposed resolutions stupid or one extreme or another? It seems like some were written just to make change. They don't know what the change is, except that they want change.

So my question is now this: What is the point of the WA? Besides the invading/defending aspects, what is the point?

Ok, so the point is for it to change my nation's type... over time...

Or is the point, having to do with proposals, is to convince at least 6% of the delegates to approve?

So I realize that there will be a NS2 coming out, with who-knows-what improvements to the WA and raiding and defending and whatnot. But the WA seems to 'wrong' some how. It's incomplete.

At first, the WA was called the UN, after the real life organization, United Nations. What does the UN do? I found their answer in this PDF (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.un.org%2Fgeninfo%2Ffaq%2Fbriefingpapers%2Fhelp.pdf&ei=LzF4SNO0GZDqgwS9ifAc&usg=AFQjCNEmkB6B5_VzcIfoPjqAJuInqhlsgQ&sig2=UPYTeA1xwwaNLEPkWX6Wug), and you can read the text of it in the GUN forums (http://globalunionofnations.com/GUN_Forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3&p=3#p3).

That sounds really nice. The UN is also a place for the nation's (big or small) voices to be heard. And the WA is supposed to be like that. Sort of...

I have all of these thoughts brewing in my head. I don't know what to make of them. Maybe you do?

I want to make a proposal that will 'fix' the WA. But it's fixing will not be done with the words in the proposal, but in the actions that must be made to convince everyone to vote for it. It could also be fixed by how the proposal is made, in this thread.

Maybe not even to fix the WA, but I simply want to see a proposal to pass. What kinds of proposals do you think should be in there? What real life things need to change? How could that change be implemented in NS, while following the rules of the game? Let's make a resolution that we know will pass even before it is submitted.

The short answer: yes, you are wrong. There are plenty of interesting, non-simplistic topics to write proposals about. The old UN was never modelled, mechanically, on the real world UN. And proposals to 'fix' the WA are generally illegal.

If you're still confused try reading some of the past resolutions or the (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=490188) stickies (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=420465).

I'm talking about fixing the slump we've reached, not fixing what people think to be the WA's problem. I'm not talking about doing anything illegal in the game.

O.C.C. What slump are you refering to? And in fact your not "talking "about doing anything at all , your just moaning because you don't like the stuff being debated at the moment, but what fascinating issues are you actually bringing forward for debate?

If you don't like the proposals and resolutions on offer right now go and write one. Instead of slagging off other peoples work.

There is only one way to fix the current slump:
- draft a legal proposal
- submit it
- organize a telegram campaign to garner over 100 approvals

I would agree with you, the WA isn't great. It has it weakness, and I would support a proposal that attempts to fix the WA.. The problem would be what would be it about.

It appears you've missed the point of this discussion entirely. You can't "fix" the WA with a proposal. The only problems you can fix with legislation are imaginary problems that exist only in the imaginary world of NS roleplay. I still have no idea what the OP is babbling about, but if he can produce an actual proposal that can be debated, I'd love to see it.

I agree with the OP that the WA is in a slump. No legislation has come to the floor in about a month. Some people might say that's a reason to celebrate, but that's beside the point.

As for fixing the WA, it's probably beyond fixing.

Never fear. As a WA member for more than a year, I've seen boredom prevail in both incarnations, and suddenly some proposal goes into quorum and... hey presto: the whole organization is alive again.
