A couple things, first, punctuation marks are not substitutes for spaces. Second, I doubt that mandating public executions qualifies as human rights.

Making public execution compulsory, whilst seen as one strong deterrents against people willing to commit indecent crimes, may meet severe levels opposition because it is considered barbaric by modern standards. The death penalty could still be used today, but doing this in public would be a step backwards for criminal justice.

In the Grand Holy Empire of Imota, certain classes of criminals are executed by public stoning. This is our policy, and one we have chosen for ourselves. We feel that every nation has the same right we do, to choose FOR THEMSELVES how to deal with lawbreakers. We therefore cannot and will not support this proposal.

How so? It would be barbaric of course, but how would it affect criminal justice?

Execution is barbaric and makes a nation no better then murderers. What message are we conveying to our people when we kill our own citizens?
By granting and endorsing executions you are showing murder as a solution to a problem. perhaps unintentionally encouraging more of the same behavior.

What happens in the event that a convicted person was wrongfully convicted of the crime, but this information only surfaced after the innocent person was put to death. You cant bring people back from beyond.

Though rehabilitation convicted felons can be integrated back into society. Thus adding one more person to the workforce and increasing economic output. Also re-paying the cost of incarceration.

At no time is it ever justified for a government to murder.

While we feel that the death penalty should be reserved as punishment for certain crimes (such as murder and rape), we do not believe that the World Assembly should have the right to mandate that non-death penalty nations implement public executions. Additionally we feel that, while public executions may serve as some additional deterent, manners of execution are best left up to the member nations, as they will best be able to determine policies based on their individual legal traditions.

OOC: It seems that quite a few people here don't know the meaning of 'murder'.

The Grand Duchy of Punta Gordina has since long abolished the death penalty and on moral grounds, we oppose all forms of government supported violence. Therefore, we can not support this proposal in any way, shape or form.

Purnelia has some pubic execution mainly in English hanging a humane but intimidating way of killing criminals. I believe it should not be compulsory and every country should follow it's own course of action.

(Definition of English Hanging just enough rope to break the neck with out decapitation or strangulation.)

Public executions are wrong. I would go further than these guys have and say that the WA should BAN public execution. It shouldnt even be a nation by nation issue; it's just inhumane and wrong and is an archaic and savage practice. The United States of Am3ricans cannot and will not support a proposal that is so third-world.

The Commonwealth of Jujuburghia is a developing (or "third world") nation. The government of Jujuburghia, following the opinion of the people as voiced through referendum, has long ago banned execution, finding the practice abhorrent. Further, we have also chosen as a nation, despite our problems, to restrict our trading only to other nations that have outlawed execution. We will therefore actively oppose this resolution.
