DRAFT: Abolition of Slavery

Central Prestonia
22-06-2008, 09:41
First shot (I think, may have pitched a few when I first started) at writing a proposal, so any input you may have is more than welcome.

The World Assembly,

BELIEVING the institution of human slavery to be morally reprehensible,

RECOGNIZING the fundamental right of all human beings to live as free men and women,

RECOGNIZING that said institution runs contrary to the fundamental right of human beings to live as free men and women,

FURTHER RECOGNIZING the brutality and dehumanization inherent in said institution,

1. CONDEMNS, in highest terms, those nations within it's ranks and elsewhere who are presently engaged in the practice of slavery.

2. MANDATES that all persons currently held in bondage against their will be emancipated posthaste.

3. MANDATES that all persons formerly held in bondage be given adequate compensation, as determined by the individual member-states of the WA, for their previous work.

the government of the emperor of Urgench takes the manumittance of slaves very seriously and commends the honoured ambassador for Central Prestonia for their work, we do wonder if the provisions of this resolution might be extended to the numerous non human sentients of the world assembly membership though?

3. MANDATES that all persons formerly held in bondage be given adequate compensation, as determined by the individual member-states of the WA, for their previous work.
So the very same nations that will be forced to free their slaves will be the ones to determine what levels of compensation are then considered "adequate"? I somehow suspect that those levels would tend to be set rather lower than most of us would consider really appropriate...
