Proposal: Universal Health Care

Hello, I am the founder of the great nation of Camericana. My WA proposal for Universal Health Care (found on page one of the proposals list) is doing great, but needs added support, as it only has 30 approvals. With your support, we can get your nations the health care it needs and deserves.

Category: Social Justice

Strength: Significant

The Description:
The Universal Health Care act will provide all citizens of a Nation with free health care (free surgeries and hospitalization, free check-ups at local doctor). Your Nation has the choice of where the money for this service comes from. This money will supply doctors with the equipment necessary to perform surgeries without the support of money paid directly to the hospital itself.

This act will also help to provide those who cannot afford the extra prices paid to hospitals with the health care necessary to keep these low income people/families healthy.

By the way, this is my first thread + post.

Approve Universal Health Care Act.

Wouldn't this proposal costs hundreds of trillions of dollars to fund?

Also, wouldn't this reduce the quality of health care in those nations that have free market health care?

Dear Camericana,

Since my nation has the choice of where this money can come from for your Universal Health Care Plan, I choose the coffers of Camericana's treasury. When this proposal passes, I expect full payment as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Welcome to the forum, Camericana.

As you can see, controversial proposals like mandated universal healthcare can provoke a range of responses from its detractors.

It is regrettable that your nation has submitted this proposal before posting it here for peer-review because this proposal is rather vague and poorly written, which would explain why it is getting torn apart so viciously right now. By posting a proposal here beforehand, others can contribute their comments and constructive criticisms, which can help you write a more developed proposal that would have a better chance of reaching quorum.

Having said that, I have my doubts about a proposal mandating universal healthcare ever achieving quorum, as the very concept is controversial to its core. My own nation's government, for instance, sees no need to extend its healthcare coverage to the affluent; and this is before we get to those member nations that oppose governmentally-funded healthcare on philosophical grounds.

I would prefer to see a proposal that establishes basic standards for healthcare, rather than the current proposal.

While we certainly support the concept of universal healthcare, and would probably not oppose a proposal that effectively promoted it, we fear this is not such a proposal. But 'universal healthcare' is pretty big, and while the WA is young, it might be better to start smaller. For example, we could set up a service to provide medicine to those most in need, e.g. those living in conflict or post-conflict zones. Later on, we could figure out who to broaden the service to.

Welcome to the WA, O founder of Camericana. Sorry about the gladiatorial combat that passes for debate here. Personally I'm all in favour of free basic healthcare, but your proposal needs to say more about what is and isn't included. Also, as you may have gathered, you'll need to be a bit more specific about where the money can legitimately come from -- it won't be the WA, since we're currently unfunded (not to mention literally living in the rubble of the previous administration).
