The Cost of Renaming

Goobergunchia
02-04-2008, 20:30
Madam, er, Presiding Officer, I present a communication from the Goobergunchian Councils, acting jointly, and demand its immediate consideration.

Goobergunch City, Goobergunchia
2 April 2008.

Due to the renaming of the United Nations to the World Assembly, the Liberal Unitary Republic must make a substantial number of changes to its structural apparatus to ensure continued accuracy. While many of these can be done easily, an amendment to the Charter of Councils is required to rename the "United Nations Ambassador" to the "World Assembly Ambassador". To amend one of the Goobergunchian Charters, a special national election must be held.

The Liberal Unitary Republic has determined that the World Assembly is directly responsible for these changes and as such asks the World Assembly to pay for the costs incurred by the Liberal Unitary Republic, as follows:

For the cost of the special national election, 10,000,000,000 knugels.
For damage to Goobergunchian property held in the United Nations Headquarters, 10,000 knugels.

Approved by the JOINT COUNCILS of the LIBERAL UNITARY REPUBLIC of GOOBERGUNCHIA.

SIGNED,
[Lord] Trevor Femhat, Chairman of the High Council
Sayuri Sutgraf, Chairman of the Low Council.

[Lord] Michael Evif
Goobergunchian UN Ambassador

While we understand the...frustration of the Goobergunchian government, it is not the World Assembly's fault at all. The blame, in fact, rests upon this extra-dimensional United Nations or upon the NSUN, whom willingly took upon itself a copyrighted name. The World Assembly is NOT the successor of the NSUN, simply an independant replacement, who should not be held accountable for that body's actions.

You have to hold an extra election? Oooh, how terrible. Meanwhile, in Nederland a serious constitutional crisis has broken out because according to our constitution all UN members have the right to vote. And suddenly all our UN members disappeared! And this wouldn't even be such a big problem if all nations could agree. But as in every part of politics, some people disagree, out of legal grounds or to take advantage. So now possibly unsatisfied members will leave the region, start a revolution (actually they're already trying) or cause us to refound the region under a different name.

Definitely the NSUN is to blame for this, however they have disappeared. However, if the WA has declared itself the successor with the current resolution on vote to the NSUN Nederland will do everything in its power to sue the WA for the damage done.

It's too bad Mr. Barry didn't think in advance of the impact the change would have and didn't properly announce it (which would have allowed us to implement needed changes). So here's the price of an April's Fools joke: a region in turmoil.

Too bad this isn't a joke. It's dead-serious. Luckily, my region is small enough and loosely-guided enough that it hasn't dealt us damage, though the implosion of the entire institute (and my favorite bar) has caused worry of anything else imploding. We ought to try and declare war upon this alternate reality, and bring to them the damage dealt this fine April.

couldn't you withhold your fees/donations to the new organization in "protest", until you've reached the proper amount?

That'd require the WA to be able to collect fees or donations. Since the old UN Funding Act failed to pass and the current WA seems keen to repropose the old UN Taxation Ban, it's likely that the WA will not be able to collect funds any more than the old UN, and will similarly subsist upon charitable donations, car boot sales, and bake sales. Which makes paying the Goobergunchian bill difficult, particularly as we have to fund the construction of the WAHQ Building at the same time.

meh. The US government has simply declared eminent domain on the old UN embassy in the US. It will be handed over to the WA as soon as the bill enacting the WA is passed.

That would assume that they'd ever paid any fees in the first place, wouldn't it?

Regrettably, our inter-dimensional faxes are out of order at the moment. If perhaps we could borrow somebody's?

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF DAYTANISTAN

FROM: Amad Noosh, Supreme People's Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Literature, and Sports

TO: Trevor Femhat, Chairman of the High Council
Sayuri Sutgraf, Chairman of the Low Council
Decadent Bourgeois Class Oppressor Unitary Republic of Goobergunchia

Lord Femhat, Mr Sutgraf,

It is with the authority of the Supreme Daytan People's Council that I write to you, to condemn utterly the idea that the World Assembly is in any way responsible for any financial loss or mismanagement on the part of your government.

That your government requires a special national election to amend charters inflicted upon the workers and peasants of your nation by your own laws is not the fault of the World Assembly. That the United Nations collapsed is not the fault of the World Assembly. That Goobergunchian property was damaged in the attack upon the old United Nations buildings is so minor an issue as to be insulting for it to be brought to the attention of the international community.

The reality is that these spurious claims are just another expression of your oppressive government's opposition to the liberation of the international working classes. The international laws of the old United Nations are the chains of Western imperialist powers who seek to enslave the workers and peasants of the world, especially the workers and peasants of Daytanistan and indeed all of Central Asia, of whose successes and unparalleled standard of living imperialist powers like Goobergunch are deeply envious. This deep-seated envy combines with capitalist greed over and over again in the resolutions of the old United Nations.

The chains of the workers of the world will be broken with the striking down of all the oppressive laws of the old United Nations! Goobergunch's attacks on the World Assembly are transparent for what they truly are - attacks by proxy on the international proletariat!

To Whom It May Concern:

The recent multidimmensional fireball caused by your your organization has destroyed the NSUN. This, as you may already know, has caused the formation of a new organization, the NSWA. Our soverign governement of The Happily Depressed Hackers of Linux and the X has therefore been forced to hold an emergency legislative session to decide whether or not to remain a member of this new organization. This has cost our soverign government five thousand destroyed Microsoft CDs. Because the cause of this cost has been traced to your organization, we are requesting compensation of the full five thousand destroyed Microsoft CDs.

Thank you for your consideration,
The soverign government of The Happily Depressed Hackers of Linux and the X.

Dear Charlotte Ryberg,

It has come to our attention that United Nations has been recently relaunched as the World Assembly. What appeared to be an April Fool's Joke, in which the Practice of April Fool's is frowned heavily upon here turned out to be true. You don't have to worry about the practice which may embarrass our traditions after all.

The fireball that claimed to destroy the UN never existed. In fact it was the simple Cease and Desist notice. I draw attention that we would have been in a worse situation without complying with the orders of the real-world UN.

Charlotte Ryberg retains it fictive membership with the UN and the Funen Union as usual, and in the short term, will transfer its delegacy to the newly-relaunched World Assembly. Additionally, we have withdrawn all property from the headquarters for storage here in the city of Llanfair PG.

Please don't call me an idiot, it was never a April Fool's joke. It never existed: please let me keep my dignity, please?

Yours Truly,

Marayevkohara K. D.
Head of Foreign Affairs

It's her again, the mad-woman that got the 'Ban International Trafficking' resolution pass the referendum.
