Repealing R11

I've sent out several messages to a decent-sized handful of fellow delegates. I sincerely hope to have my proposal approved. In time, I also hope a piece of replacement legislation is passed.

If you wonder what I'm talking about, check out "Repealing Single-Hulled Tanker Ban", and examine the original document. Please consider, those of you who I sent messages to.

Those who I did not send a message to, I apologize, and I ask that you still consider my proposal. :(

Ambassador Seigfried blinked. "Handful? You need a hundred or so delegate to bring a proposal to a vote. You'd need to send many, many more telegrams than that. Just don't send one to Catawaba. The Miraade's mail office finds telegrams extremely annoying. There have been threats of extreme violence against the UN gnomes delivering them..."

He shrugged. "It is not a Catawaba belief to shoot the messenger over the message...but the mail clerks are saying that the sender is so far away and the messenger is within gun range."

The proposal is illegal anyways. Branding violation. Emphasis mine.

Repeal "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers"

A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #11
Proposed by: Vrall

Description: UN Resolution #11: Ban Single-Hulled Tankers (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: All Businesses) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: UNDERSTANDING the environmental reasons for this resolution.

ARGUING for the sake of industry and economy world-wide.

POINTING OUT that tankers also frequently carry wine and fresh water.

SUGGESTING that some industries (public, private or otherwise) may not be able to AFFORD double-hulled tankers.

RECOMMENDING a better law be passed, banning single-hulled tankers carrying OIL.

Thank you for your time.

I understand I need over a hundred delegates on my side. Before it was recently removed (and then replaced by yours truly), it had 17 approvals. I hoped others would naturally consider it and approve it. I only needed 87, and I sent at least 20 to 30 messages out. Therefore, I had a chance. It just didn't turn out in my favor..

Out of curiosity, what about the proposal is illegal?

Your name is included in the resolution text.

Branding

Limited branding is allowed. "Limited" means that you may list one co-author by nation name only. Example:

"Co-authored by The Most Glorious Hack"

Further branding will result in the Proposal being deleted. Don't list everyone who posted in the thread for your draft, don't list yourself, don't list your Minister Of Making Proposals, and don't post the 'pre-title' of the co-author (ie: "The Republic Of..."). This includes creating nations that have the same name as your region or group and using them to promote your region or group. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=420465)

Also, the line, "Thank you for your time", is redundant.

Perhaps you and this author (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=551365) should work together.

Shazbotdom and Mavenu are correct. The lines:

Thank you for your time.

Should all be removed. I would recommend withdrawing this repeal until it is legal, as the moderators are not hesitant to remove illegal proposals even after they have reached quorum. I remember very long ago, my first repeal to achieve quorum, Repeal "DVD region removal", was deleted while in quorum for a branding violation.

You might consider ending the repeal with the (albeit unnecessary) clause "REPEALS Resolution #11: "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers" if you don't like ending a repeal with one of the arguments.

On your telegram campaigning: frankly, 20-30 delegates won't do it. Even if you get 100% response (which is basically never the case), you have only approximately 1/3 the needed approvals. For reference, in my last repeal "Repeal "Fair trial"", I telegrammed every single delegate who had voted for the previous resolution. I can only approximate this number, but it was well over the required 104 delegates to achieve quorum. I was actually preparing doing the same with Resolution #11 with a prepared repeal I've had planned for a time.

.... Oh...... Ya know... at this point... perhaps it's better to leave the law creation/destruction to you guys... you've been here longer, you know the ins and outs, and you have things like this planned before I'm even a nation....

Thank you for your consideration, Vrall, it's very nice to see out of a new player to this game. But, you don't need to necessarily halt your legislative pursuits for other players. You've gained your two endorsements and have as much of a right to submit proposals/repeals as anyone. This forum is a perfect place for a new nation to learn the ins and outs of proposal writing and the UN forum regulars, myself included, would be more than happy to help you along the way.
